Always buy the car you want, with some research (still some very bad cars being made) but today, there is not as much crap as there was. The old chevy v-8's designed in the late 40's and put in cars in mid 50's will do 2-300,000 (as will the fords if you think im being brand specific) if taken care of now, better oil, better air filters, etc.. Now days it not so much if it will last, its if you like how it rides and looks (me, I haven't seen a good looking NEW car In a LONG time). Transmission issues in most are heat/poor maintenance (auto) and in manuals the user is the problem 99% of the time (but again, there are some bad units out there, but they are are rare). I have a ton of cars as most Car nuts do and I have found one thing, take care of it , it will take care of you.
