Thinking of getting a license...

I have never driven a car.
I have never taken driver's ed.
I have never studied those signs or anything.

Where do I begin? Will it cost $$$ to take the test?

I'm 17.

i live in cali and most schools dont have drivers ed classes anymore. we're too cheap for that unfortunately.

In order to get a license in California, if you're under the age of 18, you must have 6 hours of experience with a driving instructor ($120). To gain this experience you must first have a driving permit; the test for this permit costs $24 dollars. In order to be able to take this test you must possess a pink slip, which is given to you upon your completion of driver's ed. At your age, you may have to pay to take a class. Not me though, I got my pink slip at 14.

you don't need a driver's ed class to take the written test. just get a driver's manual for about 3 bucks and go over to DMV and take it.

My dad is pretty experienced. We have two cars so yeah I could probably try out on one of 'em.

Then get a drivers manual from the DMV. Read it through a couple times. Pay special attention to the signs and general rules which you should really know if you have spent any time as a passenger.

When you feel confident go take a permit test.
Ask dad (definately not mom) to teach you to drive...................unless of course your dad is Asian as your avatar would suggest

Well you will likely never be a competent driver........lucky for you the DMV has no such standards.
