Thinking of buying my first laptop, any suggestions?

I've been saving up for a new game machine and I've been really toying with the idea of going with a laptop as opposed to my typical desktop setup. Also considering I don't have a good place at home right now for a gaming rig, a laptop would be perfect. So what would you guys suggest for a good laptop? Can I get a decent one for around 1500?

My first suggestion is this.

I'm not trying to be judgemental, just you'll hopefully get a better response there.

Now if you have a question about whether a laptop would make a good frisbee....this is the place.

I love my Thinkpad. It has all those little details that I really appreciate. Nothing about it annoys me.

IBM ThinkPad R or T series, will be tough to get it down to $1500 but it's possible.

Or I'd buy a loaded Dell Inspiron 600m with Centrino :) light, fast and good battery life.

There are also a couple of recent threads on gaming laptops in General Hardware, which search of "laptop" will find. Why reinvent the threadwheel?

I just saw Toshiba's new Desktop Replacement, 17" Screen. It must be over 25 lbs fully packed. It's HUGE.

Yes, you can get a pretty decent laptop from Dell for about $1500. My wife got a Dimension last year and is pretty happy with it. However, I wouldn't categorize it as a gaming machine....

The P25 is awesome! Used one for about 2 weeks and had no complaints. It's bigger than most laptops, but the 17" widescreen makes up for the extra size/weight.

Cheap-ass here likes his Dell Inspiron 1100. Hell, I can even play Unreal Tournament and Quake 3 on it! $660 for 15" screen, 256MB ram, DVD, Celeron 2.0. Can't imagine the T40 is a $800 - $1000 better machine. Maybe I'm wrong or just cheap as hell.
