Thinking of buying a Nissan Sentra

if you were to get a 2001 Chevy Prizm, your mpg would be great, they are down right reliable, great a to b car, not a chick magnet though.

The current Sentra has been around forever and should not be a huge reliability risk.

Reliable sure but my gf's old '98 GXE was slow as dirt. 1.6L w/ the 5speed and yes, AC definitely needed to be turned off for any sort of merging manuevers.

my mother has the same issue with her 02 Rav 4. piss poor acceleration from about 20mph... but no one will believe me because im a "GM" fanboi.

I guess, but the 5 speed manual definitely has more pickup than the 4 speed auto. I own both.
And the same can be said of any econobox of that era.

I'm certain that's the factory standard. :roll: Perhaps you should not take it to the mechanic that worked in that area last, instead of cursing Nissans.

Even if they aren't as reliable as other manu. , that still isn't saying much because they are quite reliable. My dad is on about 220000mi with his 95 sentra and never spends more than $300 a year in non-standard maintenance.

In general, buying a used different brand over a new Nissan at the same price would be a mistake, because used cars (even if only a couple years old) don't usually have as extensive warranties and coverage should there be a problem. You always have to understand that if someone sold of a car that was only a few years old, there was probably a reason, and usually that reason was because they tore it up and some dealer took it just to sell a new car.

You're welcome to stand for what you want, but personally I don't base $10,000+ purchases on a company's desire for a domain name.

they are very reliable cars, but they aren't as nice as the other options, which are all equally if not more reliable. i think i would buy based on how nice the car is versus the price, since they will all run forever. you will certainly find the fit and finish in a civic, corolla, or 3 to be superior to the sentra (hell, they are probably superior to the maxima).

If you want a Sentra, only get used. The resale is not as high as more popular models, so you'll get good value.

Besides, I think the current Sentra is ugly. Not that the previous version was much better. The last good Sentra was the first SE-R. 140 HP!

In 2002, I purchased a used 1998 Nissan Sentra GXE. Apparently I drove it like a monster truck, but it kept up with me perfectly the whole way through until some moron decided to total it in January '05. Despite being "total"ed, it STILL drove great!

So 2 days later, I purchased a new Nissan Sentra 1.8.... no major problems with this car yet. I do have a few quirks like my car smelling of rotten eggs everytime I turn it off. I've told the dealership time and time again and they said it was nothing. I think that's just an isolated problem though and not widespread.

Overall, it's a good car and affordable. The used car I bought while in college and the new Sentra I bought a few weeks after I graduated from college and had just started my first job. Too bad somebody decided to hit my new sentra last November and caused $6K worth of damage :| Maybe I should stop driving SEntras...

Oh, the defrost/AC/heating on both sentras have always outdone all of my familys' hondas! It's amazing!

from what i've heard, it's noisy, less reliable, has a worse interior, and its design is also verrrrry dated compared to the corolla and civic.

also made in mexico.

Please tell me what you drive so I can dig up some story of you car company doing some corporate muscling. You'll immediately trade it in and find a new company that never bullies the little guy, right?

if i knew then what i know now i wouldn't have gotten mine.

way less comfortable than pretty much anything else in its class. back seat is smaller than anything else. plastic on armrests is rock hard and kills your elbows. the middle armrest is so far back as to be almost unusable. the seats are designed for someone 5'8" tall with a 30 inch waist (very narrow). all those little bins made of hard plastic that are everywhere tend to rattle a bit. trunk isn't very big and the gooseneck hinges cut down space even more. mine pings for no apparent reason. it also hard starts, again for no apparent reason. nissan claims to not know why this is, but it is a known problem. i've managed to flood it 3 or 4 times, which i thought was impossible for an EFI car (and then the nissan service guy i had on the phone burned up my starter motor by giving me the wrong procedure to clear it "oh just crank it for a minute"). the transmission dropped out of gear twice one day, but i've never gotten it to happen again.

i can't wait to get a mustang in november
