Thinking of buying a new road bike

Yeah, I'm sure your wife is such a pro, and that's why she's riding an old POS bike. She loves cycling so much that she's devoted herself to the point of being better than anyone on AT, but she's riding around on some old peice of sh!t.

You can tell when people really start to love a sport because they buy the worst equipment they can find.

Wait a week or so and buy a Trek. Last year they had 30-50% off their bikes when Lance won the TDF. I picked up my Trek 5000 for ~$1600.

There is so much wrong with this post (and poster?) on so many levels, I think we should let it speak for itself.

Regarding the OP... get the best bike you can afford if you really expect to ride a lot. If you're only going to ride once in a while... well, you won't be in the saddle enough to notice the finer aspects of a kick butt bike.

Too much bike pr0n here, as someone mentioned above. Glad I, uhh, went for a ride today.

Just ride a few and select from there. Don't get so hung up on materials, parts, or whatever. Size does matter and so does the feel of the bike, which will differ in opinion for different people.

I just bought a new bike. The bike store said it was a 2005 Schwinn Fastback Sport when really it was the regular Schwinn Fastback. Sport goes for 550, Regular goes for 800. Bought that thing and saved 250 bucks. Not a bad bike, especially for 550.

I hope this is true although I have my eye on a Trek Mountain bike. The 4300 specifically... full retail is $470 and that seems pretty cheap for what you get(front suspension, disc brakes, etc)
