I agree. To be fair to the H2 the guy shouldn't have turned his wheels that much. Either way, that was pathetic - I've seen Nissan Pathfinder go over 10 inch curb like it was nothing.

sounds like they said he popped the tierod.

The tie rod is either of two rods that link the steering gear to the front wheels, and is part of the STEERING LINKAGE, a mechanism consisting of a system of rods and levers connected to the front wheels of a motor vehicle; the steering gear pushes the steering linkage left or right which swivels the front wheels causing the vehicle to turn

If you watch just the part of the vid where the breakage occurs, you will see what happens. The drivers side wheel spins, and the traction control system kicks on. All the momentom from that spinning wheel + the engine is sent to the passenger side wheel, which is at a funky angle. It sounded like he broke the CV joint but it was actually a steering component. He most likely snapped off the passenger side tie rod.

Perhaps this is why the H2 commercials show the vehicle travelling over flat dirt.

I've punished the hell out of the Army HMMWV on numerous occasions and never seen some $hit like that happen. H1 is the shiznit, it's that simple. You want a real Hummer, buy MILSPEC at an auction or something.

That's a funny vid.

It's nothing more than a Tahoe with a different body on it you know.

I had one in my shop a few months ago with a broken tie-rod, knuckle, cv-shaft, upper and lower ball joint and wheel. No body damage, so he wasn't in an accident - he must have broken it doing the same kind of thing that dude was doing in the video.

When you start working on one you realize it's really kind of a mickey mouse setup under there. All light duty stuff - like an independant front suspension. That works fine on cars, not trucks.

A lot of people would argue with me on that, and GM is being really stupid about it (even their 1-Ton trucks have independant front ends) - but they just don't cut it.

The H1 has independent suspension, and it holds up really well. If you've ever seen one tho, you'd see why, the thing is so damn beefy it's ridiculous. But I don't understand why the military ever did that. The rest of the trucks are solid axle front and rear, even the newer designed trucks. I agree with you that solid axles are better for heavy duty applications, and cheaper to boot.

After watching the video, I too agree that the H2 is junk. That's ridiculous, snapping a driveshaft like that, or whatever component it was. Any solid axle truck would've done just fine in that situation, or even a better IFS truck like a Toyota Tacoma. If this thing doesn't have a mechanical locking differential, doesn't it have some kind of electronic system, like ABS control? A fully open differential is COMPLETELY useless in off-roading like this.
