Thinking of buying a Digital Camera

Dont want to spend a fortune but dont want to get just any POS.

Can anyone make any recommendations?

Want decent resolution but doesnt have to be photographic film quality. Like to view pictures at 800x600 on screen.

I know a lot about photography and use an Olympus 35mm entirely in the manual mode now so I think Ill understand information as technical as you wish to post.

Mostly concerned with megapixels necessary, what kind of storage, controls and so forth.

Any help appreciated.

The Nikon CoolPix series is the best bang for the buck in the consumer market, in my opinion. If you want to spend a little more the Olympus E-10 is a very good buy too, especially now that the E-20 is out. I have one and it's great. Also check out http://www.dpreview.com/. They have revies for just about any digital camera you would think of buying. Hope you like whatever you get.

Like LukFilm asked, how much do you want to spend?

Do you plan on printing your pictures? If so, what size prints do you think you'll be printing?

I personally think that the Minolta Dimage 5 offers a very high bang to the buck ration.

7x Optical zoom that you can manually operate, 3.34 megapixel, macro mode, excellent low light pics, and a full range of ISO settings. If you like to take control of your pictures, instead of "point and shoot", then give it a looksee.

Also, you can find it for around $500.

I'd go with an Olympus or Fuji Finepix if your budget is around $250-$300.

Maybe the Olympus D-510 or Fuji Finepix 2600.

Excellent recommendations for both links and digicams. I'd go with Fuji, though you won't be disappointed in either of them. I just like Fuji's design better.

Yeah I seem to favor Fuji's also but if this were a high end digicam I'd get an Olympus.

Now the trick is finding the Fuji 2600 in stock somewhere and for a good price.

Agreed, Olympus rules for high-end (over $1,000). But I'm partial to low-end Fuji's because my first digicam was Fuji FinePix 1400, a very fine digicam for sure.
