I'm starting to think about building a dual proc rig now that I have a DVD burner and software MPEG encoding is so CPU intensive.

And I'm a complete n00b to dual proc hardware.

It appears on the surface that AMD would be less expensive that Intel. True?

What chipsets support dual Athlons other than AMD's 762 chipset?

Can anyone recommend an economical dual proc AMD mobo? (Realizing, of course, that economical and dual proc really don't belong in the same sentence.)

Thanks,

Well the ONLY dual chipset for AMD is the 760MPX chipset (besides the older 760MP)

I had a Asus 760mpx board and now am using a Chaintech 760mpx board. I like the Chaintech as it is only $200 yet has AC97 sound, and a promise raid chip.

But fr the most part all the 760MPX boards are ABOUT the same. Some will have ethernet, some will have 5.1ch sound, etc...

You can run Athlon XP's in dual setup if you connect the last L5 bridge on teh chip, VERY EASY. I did this and am running 2 1600's right now. But yu can get a pair of 2000's noe pretty cheap.
