thinking about visiting parts of Asia

I was thinking about taking a couple weeks off after I get my BSEE to go visit various parts of Asia. I had in mind Taiwan, Japan and Thailand.

I'd probably stay 1-2 weeks at each place. I can probably stay at a friend's place in Japan and at family in Taiwan. Thailand, I'd have no clue, I'd need to get a travel agent.

How much would something like this cost? 2-3 thousand? If anyone has visited these places, let me know if you liked it or not.

Thailand, you can rent a girl for the whole night and it would cost you only $70. You can do whatever with her. hehehe Watch out for STD.

What kind of trip are you looking at?

Do you want to visit popular tourist places? Historical places? Religious places? Just chill and have fun? Women?

I've been to Taiwan out of those three places you mentioned. It's just another city, but there's lots to do like shopping, eating, drinking, partying, etc....

Why not go to Beijing or Shanghai? It's cheap and I'm sure they have more stuff to see/do than Taiwan or Thailand.

I'm not a particularly well travelled person so I'd like change that. I've lived in CA most of my life, aside from the short stint in ohio, so it would be nice to see what other places are like.

I picked each place for a reason, I like japanese culture such as music and food. I was born in taiwan and I have never been back since leaving when I was 3. I have so much family there that I've never met and it's really time that I do. My grandfather died about a month ago and I've never met him in person since leaving at 3. My grandmother is still there so I should go sometime before that happens again. And finally, thailand because I saw some of adul's pics of thailand and now I just have to go see it for myself.

I can't deny that I would love to meet a nice girl while I was travelling, preferably in taiwan, but I seriously doubt that's a realistic expectation. I have no luck meeting the right girl out here and I'm here all the freaking time.

~500 USD round trip from LAX to Gaoshung, Taiwan . My parents both recently made a trip for my grandfather's funeral. That's about as cheap as it gets, it becomes more expensive during peak season like summer and around christmas. Prices are as high as 1 grand round trip peak. The plane ride is 14 hours.

the 14 hour ride from LAX to taipei sucks big donkey nuts.


my vote is for hong kong and singapore. both pretty easy to get around in if you only speak english (the dialect used in singapore is kinda odd). singapore is very very safe. and the zoo rules (night safari). you can take the shuttle flight up to KL, leaves about every 30 minutes. lots of english used there too. (watch out... water is air there.)

those photos didnt help either. Two weeks in thailand will not be much money. I spent about 1400 on my two month stay. Granted I did not stay in a hotel every night.

1000 should be more then enough for a two week stay in thailand. May I suggest visiting the islands in southern thailand. Also check out chang mai if you can.
You can get nice hotels for around 30 bucks or so. Some places cheaper, some more depending where you are and time of season.
