Thinking about trading in my 2009 Ninja ZX6R (600cc) for....

The new 2011 Honda CBR 250R!

No this is not a trolling attempt. I'm seriously considering trading it in since it'll be cheaper on insurance, gas (77mpg!), maintenance.

My current bike.

Dumbest single idea I've ever heard. Good luck when you get tired of cruising around at 50mph and you can only get $2500 resale on the 250r.

Yes. But I don't think that's gonna matter much when you twist the throttle and wait for about a minute before any noticable change in speed.

I mean, seriously. Just how bad is the gas mileage on the 6R? And I doubt you'll actually get 77mpg from the CBR250R unless you're constantly at 50mph in top gear.

Seriously? Let's see... A high quality race/street bike with 100+ horsepower and years of R&D put into it and a retail price of $10,000 or a $3500 retail priced, 25 horsepower, entry level bike that will be mainly used as a bike idiots drop at the local motorcycle safety course while they learn to ride a bike for the first time. Seems like a tough choice to me.🙄

I own a 2009 zx6r just like his (different color) and I get 40-44 mpg and I ride it pretty hard.

Let's add to this... if the Ninja were a woman, I'd hit it like the fist of an angry god. That other thing? Beer goggles, maybe even a paper bag.

Unlike other manufacturer's, you can take honda's claim of 77mpg. They're pretty dead on accurate with the MPG claim.

With the zx6r, I get about 39mpg.

Oh and I also had a 09 Ninja 250 so I have an idea of what kind of power to expect from the 250 class.

I don't take my bike to the track so it's no point for me to own a purposely built track bike. Though I like the look.

Would you be interested in selling your ZX6R? What are you looking to get for it? Depending on where you live I might be interested. Please post here (instead of FS/FT).

If it saves you money, go ahead... but why are you riding?

Just read a story about some 26 year old whom crashed into a centre-median in my city, got thrown into opposing traffic, then got run over by an infiniti. Sure hope he wasn't riding just because he wanted to save gas. You (and most others) ride (and risk it all) cause you love it and it's fun I hope.

Of course this is only applicable to those who already know how to ride...

It's on top of this page, for sale for $6500 obo.
South Jersey
Do you have a clear title for the ZX6R? Any accident damage, etc.?
No I still have a loan on it. NO accident and my ad is listed on top of the page.

LOL... I have my eye on an even slower bike than the CBR. :hmm: :awe:

hrm...a scooter? 😀

1. I like riding for one and 2 it save me gas, insurance, & maintenance. Fun doesn't really require 120hp and run 11 sec 1/4 mile.

Then I think you're all set. It's not like you can never go back if you "get bored".

dude, no frickin way! as someone who just upgraded from a 500cc beginner bike to a 675cc sport bike I can easily and honestly say that I would never go back to the GS unless I bought one for use as a track bike.

you'll lose everything that you're used to...speed, acceleration, throttle response...the whole she-bang.

short answer: NO

Didn't know Honda was bringing that over finally.

With Gas nearing $5/gal around here, I've considered buying a 250r simply for the gas mileage. I'm sure it would get pretty boring as a primary bike though. I've read plenty of threads on ADVrider about how suitable it is for highway riding, touring, etc, but I have a feeling all those anecdotes are by dudes who way half my 230 lbs.

If I were you, I'd first find one that I can flog for a day, put it through every conceivable situation you can imagine, not only that you would need to do, but also what you'd want to do on bike. If you're happy, then go for it.

really up to you, man...personally, if I'm going to ride a bike it's going to be faster than my cars.

MotorcycleDaily.com got 56mpg, btw.
I'm going to the dealership tomorrow to check it out 😀

And I drive pretty conservatively and ALWAYS get the manufacture's claim fuel economy. So far Honda is dead on accurate as far as advertised fuel economy.

These are the cars I have owned.

- 2006 Civic DX Coupe 5spd manual - Averaged 36-38 mpg mixed/mostly hwy (Claimed 38 hwy)

- 2006 Honda Accord Coupe 5spd Manual - Averaged 30mpg mixed/mostly hwy (Claimed ??)

- 2009 Honda Fit Sport auto - Averaged 33mpg mixed/mostly hwy (claimed 35mpg hwy)

- 2009 Honda Civic Si Coupe 6spd manual - averaged 29mpg mixed/mostly hwy (claimed 29mpg hwy)

- 2002 Acura RSX 5spd manual - averaged 29 mpg mixed/mostly hwy (claimed ??)

And....

2010 Mazdaspeed 3 - averaged 21mpg (claimed 25mpg :thumbsdown🙂

This is what you need if fuel economy is what you're after.

About 100 hp, 170 ft-lbs of torque, and 95 mpg 🙂
