Thinking about switching from electric - is the Mach 3 really the best razor?

Well, my electric razor started leaking battery fluid yesterday.. not a very pretty site.

So is the Mach 3 Turbo really the best blade out there? How long does each blade last on it?

And how does one use one? I havent used a blade in 6 years so I dont quite remember. Do you go with or against the grain?

I hate that razor. I can't seem to get it to stay at the right angle because the blade tilts back too easily, thus it feels like it is pulling my beard out rather than shaving it. And when I get done, my skin is so irritated that it feels like I am severely sunburned.

Mach 3's the best razor there is hands down. Smoothest shave ever and I've tried alot of different razors.

So then what do you use?

I use the Mach 3. As long as the blade is relatively new, I have no problems with it. I usually switch out the blade every couple of weeks.

I cant use the Mach 3, I have a really rough beard, and the blades only last 2 shaves with me...then they start cutting more skin than they do hair...I use the Sensor Excel, really close shave and the blades last me at least a week

Mach 3 is the best...

Buy your cryogenically treated blades here: Great Razors

I don't do anything special to prolong the life of the blades, but if you store them in alcohol or mineral oil between shaves they'll last a long time...

I have a tough beard & they last about 3-4 weeks.

Consumer Reports did a test on razors about a year ago. They said hands down, by far, the best manual razor ever was the Mach 3. (Closest shave with the least effort and the least amount of nicks or scratches). Since then a few copycats have been made - which may or may not be better.

Anyone else try the cryo'd blades?

yeah...I am curious...those prices look pretty decent

Probably wasn't very clear, I use the cryo'd blades, there was a huge thread on F*tWallet, where the Great Razor owner even posted. I just finished up a 24 pack, need to order another.

What's with soaking it in mineral oil and rubbing alcohol? That doesn't seem like it'd do jackshit to me.

I'm impressed with them, and going to order some more, wife, myself & oldest daughter all use them & got ~5 months out of them, I averaged ~3 weeks/blade, wife & daughter got about 2 weeks out of theirs. I left a few in hotel rooms, or I'd still have a few left.

Mach 3 turbo all the way. I've heard there's a new Mach 3 turbo coming out.. forgot the name, but it's supposed to have a better grip and, better, something. I don't really know (just bought Mach 3 Turbo a couple months ago with several refills, so i'm good for a few more months)

I'm still using the same, FREE Mach 3 I got in the mail after I had turned 18 back in 1996. I just keep buying refills.

I really like the Mach 3. I got one for free 2 years ago, on my 18th birthday. :)

The latest Maxim (with Monica Bellucci on the cover, Yowza!) rates a bunch of blades, and the Mach3 Turbo is the only one that got 5 stars.

This is my question - I've got my Mach3 original...does anyone know if the Turbo refills will work on it? I don't wanna have to buy a different handle just to use the Turbo blades.

Original handle will work with Turbo blades.

Turbo Handle will work with Original blades.

Just when you thought the Mach3 couldn't get any better...comes the Mach3 Turbo. I didn't think I'd see that much of an improvement. Wow. Been using M3T for a few weeks now. Got a bulk pack of blades from Costco. I think I'm set for the rest of the year. :p
