Thinking about returning a GTX 670 card

Hi,

I have two GTX 670 card in SLI on a 2560x1600 resolution screen. I really haven't notice a big difference between using one or two cards. I'm thinking about returning one of them. I bought it for $350. Do you guys think that games in the future will need more GPU power then one GTX 670 and I should keep the second card? Also, will the price of the GTX 670 price eventually come down in the next 6 months. The reason I asked with that when I had a ATI 5850 the card staid at the same price forever and I paid the same price as my first ATI 5850 6 months later to put in Cross Fire. Thanks for any advice.

Games will definitely use more GPU power in the future. Even now in that resolution some games should push them. I'm just curious but what kind of games do you play? Also, Nvidia cards tend to stay up in price for a while after release, so you probably won't get a better deal for a couple of months. Ultimately it's whether you can use that extra $350 for something better in my opinion. two of those cards will build a really powerful machine, but if you really aren't challenging them or using their full power you might as well buy yourself something nice!

Uh, I don't know what games you're playing but there are definitely games that prefer 2 GPUs at 2560x1600 unless you lower a ton of image quality options. Witcher 2, metro 2033, many others. I know crysis 1/2/wh run not so well with 1 GPU at x1600 unless you really lower the IQ options.

Of course if you can live with lowering a few image quality options, it's all good.

If you can't notice the difference for the games you play, return it. When your 670 starts struggling for the games you play, just pick up a 2nd one for $200.

Thank for the responses. I currently play battlefield 3, max Payne 3 and call of duty modern warfare 3 (or whatever is the latest one.) I guess based on your responses half the responses says ishould keep the card and the others says I return it. I guess I should run some benchmarks. Anyone know of a good program to do this?

It's a really fine line for some games getting more than enough performance vs. too little. Honestly if you can't notice you might as well get your money back and save it like people recommend. I missed your 6 month time frame in the first post, but if you want to wait that long then it should definitely be a little cheaper. Ultimately up to you

Pretty much this. 2 GPUs is not a pre-requisite, however you will have to lower a few options in the most demanding DX11 games. Admittedly, you can get a great experience in most games with 1 GPU. Anyway...for the few that requires lowering settings a bit, this usually is not a big deal and you won't notice a huge difference.

Basically it is your call.

If you need the money you could return it. For a little while you should not need two and as stated above, by that time it will be cheaper where you can pick one up for less.

I think I might be stuck with the second video card. It's going to cost at least 30 dollars to mail it back and a possible 15 percent restocking fee.

30 bucks to ship a video card? and yeah they should charge you a restocking fee because they have to sell the card as an open box item now.

What does the rest of your system look like? It's possible you don't have enough CPU to properly push your dual cards.

Yeh I shipped my old one when I sold it. USPS box with bubble wrap it cost $25. Mainly because the only boxes they had were large priority mail ones. And I also had the card in its original box too. Putting it in bubble wrap with peanuts won't keep it safe.

I have never paid more than 12 bucks to ship a card. its usually much cheaper but I barely went over weight one time.

What all did you use to package it? This had been the first time I sold mine. OP prolly needs to send it in the original box.

it was 12 bucks in the original box inside another box. it was like 8 bucks when I shipped my gtx570 in single box with foam and newspaper.

lol, yeah. I watched all the episodes a few months ago on netflix. I am glad I did that instead of watching it back when it was current as it would have driven me crazy having to wait for the next episode to come out.

I even bought the LOST video game off of Amazon for like 3 bucks. it was cool being in the hatch and pressing those numbers myself.

I was basing the 30 dollars on how much it cost when I sold my old video card. The UPS store charged me for a box and bubble wrap.

1 gtx 670 will be more than enough until the end of 2013 when the next gen consoles will be released. U have plenty of time!

I love absolutely crushing any game I load with my 670s.
