I take it you've never heard of a trackball? Only been using them since 95. It works great on a couch ;P you put it on the arm rest and you are good to go. KB on the lap is the way I do it, never been an issue. I use a controller on maybe 5% of my PC games. The only real issue I have is that many made for PC games are not meant to be played from 10 foot away so they tend to have smaller text and boxes to click on that are hard to see in detail at distances, but for many things it works fine. Still not ideal for everyone, but it far from horrible.

I have had a trackball before yes. Is it as good as a mouse, hell no. Again it's not a very good couch experience and is not comfortable. You can say its comfy all you want but doesn't change reality. You just like to keep coming up with excuses to make it as if a console as no place. There are many reasons why consoles are so popular as gaming machines.

I must be some kind of liar. 😀
:sneaky:
I stopped immediately right there. Why would I read the post further from a liar?

A trackball? If that was my only choice I'd pause the game and go to the store to buy a mouse/gamepad. To each their own of course but I personally hate trackballs.

Personally, I love trackballs.

I think I'm on my 6th one at least, I stopped using mice long ago.

To each his own.

But isn't on a console I guess.

I only get one kind of trackball. The thumball. I can't stand the index finger ones. Thumballs are excellent for almost everything.

Of course, I'm quirky like that, most of you actually think the 360 controller is "good" 🙂

heh...many people playing BF4 can't maintain high settings at 60fps. PS4 is running about that at 1080p without AA.

900p and 40-60fps. Not to mention that the PC version is by far the most stable/playable version of the game, but that could be a DICE issue.

You seem to think the gap between consoles and PC has never been smaller. But it's the opposite, it's never been bigger so close to the launch of a new console generation. The fact consoles still can't run 1080p at decent framerates across the board while we've got people here with triple 1080p/going 4k is pretty striking. And when DX12 comes around and largely solves the PC API disadvantage, the gap will grow ever wider.
There is no question that the OP's PC will continue to run games smoother and at higher settings than a PS4. And he can always drop in a new GPU for the same/lower cost than a PS4 later on if he really needs to have everything on ultra.
There are some good reasons to prefer consoles. But performance will never be one, it's pretty obvious MS/Sony dropped out of that race.

I doubt anyone running triple monitors or 4k spent less than $1000 on GPU hardware alone. There is a difference there that some people just can't grasp. Cost...you won't do that setup with an single GPU and have anything close to playable at higher settings which as I said before, is my whole reason for doing PC gaming in the first place.

See for many people they see the same title, get the same enjoyment out of it, but play on the couch or recliner, on the big screen, with a simple plug and play box as well. They aren't going to do three monitors and don't have a 4k setup. That just isn't a consideration for the majority of users. Why you have to bring up such an extreme niche userbase with overpriced hardware(IMO anyway)to describe a "superior experience" is beyond me.

Consoles were made to perform for playing games and that's about it. They were never made for over performing a pc. Not sure why there is such a fit each time someone says..."but a pc is more powerful and always will be". It's common sense that if you will spend up to a grand or more you can get a pc that will knock the socks off any console.

I absolutely cannot use trackballs of any kind. I tried and can't do it lol

i also have never heard someone tell me how a pc running the game at 120fps @ 1600x1200 resolution in high settings has any kind of negative effect or impact on someone running a game at 60fps @ 900p on a ps4. why should the fact that a more powerful pc can run at a higher resolution with more details really mean anything to someone playing it on ps4?

Well you know they can crank up all the extra features and stuff on a pc that can run the game at that resolution. I don't know people were telling me I can't believe you are getting watch dogs for ps4 you have a great pc...well yea but I prefer playing on my tv sitting on the couch and I'm just more comfortable spending hours on a console as opposed to hours hunched over a keyboard and monitor.

It really is preference and some people are picky, others are not so it shouldn't really matter if you are getting similar results.

I try to make this rationalization myself. However, I once made the mistake of buying a cross platform game on the console instead so I could enjoy my couch, and the experience was awful due to the type of game.

I really have to consider the game type to make this decision. The Batman games are the only ones I can think of offhand where I will always buy for console instead of PC.

I'm currently debating Watch Dogs.

Why is this a continued counter-argument to playing a game on PC? I remember the folks over at the HT forum I visit would constantly cite this until they integrated a PC into their HTs. Borrowing a picture from one of them:

I honestly don't get how people keep thinking you got to hunch over anything to enjoy PC gaming especially in your living room.

(notice the custom mouse pad he made) He doesn't use a full size keyboard either, he as another similar mount for his (forgot what he's using now, Snipe something? Use to have a G13).

That would be nice but I cant do that in my apartment. I would need to lug my pc back and forth as I also work from home sometimes and need internet and I dont have a way to get a stable connection in the living room.

It's not an argument, it's just watchdogs is a console type game that I prefer. For example I like the batman games on pc, and anything open world gta style games on console. Graphics look good enough for me for the game on ps4 and I don't mind. My friends also don't have a pc like mine so I would not be able to play with them. It's just preference for me, nothing to do with graphics or performance really.

I wasn't even considering performance or anything of "PC vs Console" more so it just keeps popping up "why would I want to play on PC hunched over a desk" it just drives me bonkers (haha). Not that I'm singling you out specifically, some dude earlier pretty much said anyone who thinks they can PC game on a couch is a liar.

Everyone's setup is obviously different, for example my PC isn't even in the same room (it's upstairs but I got a USB and HDMI cable running through the wall to the living room, makes it quieter than my Xbone and PS4 😀). I got one PC powering 3 TVs in 3 different rooms (oh the miracle of HDMI cabling, wish TVs had DP personally, anyways.)

Again, not trying to pick on you - just that counter that keeps popping up. It drives me as crazy as "you need like $2,000 dollars to even PC game." arggggg!

well yeah, i do realize that you can crank up res + effects on a pc version, and i already stated that i know it will look better.

but how does that detract in any way someone's experience with the game on ps4 just because it doesn't have quite the same effects or the same resolution, all while still looking fantastic?

yeah, because that is what your typical gamer's setup looks like. people in a forum dedicated to HT is a great representation of your typical gamer's setup. perfect example.

I think it will still look fantastic on ps4, those on pc of course will say well the giantbomb review stated the pc will have way better sharpness and textures and that there is a significant difference. That difference won't bother me.

i know, it will look fantastic on ps4.

my original point was that i have yet to hear a pc gamer tell me how the pc version looking better will have any effect and detract from someone's experience playing it on ps4.

Yea I dunno, some people will talk about fps and then make the argument that they dint even know what resolution it will run on ps4. It's not really effective.

Typical gamer is much more compressed and most have their PC in the same room as their consoles (either a bedroom or a living room.)

If anything someone with a dedicated HT room has more work to do then run a wire from a PC to a TV.

Browsing some user submitted pics of their setups the only thing that comes to my mind is "woof." Most gamers are just lazy.

I played and plan to play the next batman on my TV from my PC with a controller. Not easy for everyone to just do that though.

I have a HTPC with a so-so graphics card, and I have a high end PC. I have run both on my home theater, and I have a wireless kb/mouse with a lap desk. And I don't care for it. I can't give tangible reasons why, I just don't find it comfortable. At least for me, the argument that one can hook up a PC to a HT just doesn't hold water.

I've considered building some sort of more stable apparatus, but I don't see a reason...
Because consoles are fun too. That's pretty much the gist of it. I enjoy gaming on my console with a controller. It's that simple.

Are graphics (usually) technically better on a capable PC? Of course. But that's not the only factor in enjoying a game to me.
