give quitting a shot, it can't be a bad thing. if you're chronic, slowing down is always tough for the first 2-3 days but you'll come out of it. by tough i mean you may get headaches, you may be irritable, etc. the withdrawal symptoms aren't that bad. i do believe there is a chance of getting addicted to anything under the sun, and pot is no exception. however, with the right personality type and situation, it can be especially addictive. something else you might realize when slowing down is that your sleep will be fitful and your dreams extremely vivid and powerful. not sure why this is, perhaps it has something to do with not remembering many dreams while you are in the midst of what some refer to as "marijuana psychosis" - what you enter when you become a chronic user.
don't be afraid to contact someone to ask for help - even just to talk about it and educate yourself some more on the topic.
my advice to you would be: if you're off to college - don't make it your "thing". the last thing you want is to be associated with it. it's one thing to be "cool" about it, but you don't want to attract any attention or a bunch of stonies that basically legitimize their own drug problems by associating with you. i don't mean to group pot in with all the other junk out there because personally i don't see it that way, but you get the idea. you're heading into an exciting time... don't be a stoner the whole time. make sure you enjoy a significant amount of time and people while you are clear-headed. people will respect you more that way and see that you're more than just the token pothead (pardon the pun). honestly - people like that are a dime a dozen these days, and they almost seem to use their uber-pothead as a status symbol. pretty lame... be yourself first and let all other things be secondary.
