Time to go with your instincts as I think your skills are being waisted with a job a monkey could likely do.

Reminds me of this headline. Anyone can be successful if they try.
Teen Lands Job in Fortune 500 Company

Lol, the rich get richer.

Don't expect 50k starting at least. Median for accounting grads (accounting related only) for recent grads of 2006 at University of Delaware 36-46k starting. Other business functions USUALLY pay slightly less than that, but cost of living around here is on the low side. If you live someone more expensive then up the median, but in suburbia thats what your gonna expect. Decent number of gov't audit jobs didn't pay close to 50 starting (I looked on OPM.gov for positions in D.C.) I work at a fortune 500 company as an Investment Accountant, and boy I wish I was making anything close to 50k+. I'm just griping with starting pay, everything's better as you stay or get related experience and move on. But still, OP - I'd say get a new job.

Ask yourself: Is what you're doing a good way to get your foot into the door of what you actually want to do? Even if your eligible for a promotion in 4-5 months is that position a good one? I can't see how getting bitched at by customers and supervisors is a good place to be. Even if you were making good money, that sounds like a crappy place to be.

Well, I've decided to go through with it. I know I'll have to take a menial job for the time being, but at least it'll give me more time to actually go out applying and interviewing for a real job. I thought about it last night and was realizing that nothing is really going to chage unless I make a change. It's drastic and it'll be a turning point in my life for better or for worse, but I'll be 28 soon and I can't keep accepting my life the way it is. I deserve better and I have the education to do better things.

Wish me luck all. :)

move out east. I can get you an interview with a tech company supporting or selling financial software if your interested. The pay is much much more than what you make now. Plus the cost of living out here is 50% less.

PM me if your interested

You can also try a Temp agency. Should make more money and get moved around to either you find out what you want or a company picks you up full time.

I'm still undecided though. What I do know for sure from talking to my boss's boss is that I likely won't be advancing anytime soon, like for the next 5-6 months, and that's what is really encouraging me to want to make a change. I just feel that taking the plunge will force me to get serious about looking for a career-related job that fits in with my education.

Nobody's saying stick with it. Some people say to find another job first. My opinion is that if you were going to search for a good job while working, you would have done that years ago. You've been vastly underpaid, and you hate your job.... what else is required to get the wheels moving?

Mystery solved. I'd say you are paid adequately at $11/hr
