Anybody here from Monterey....

I'm thinking about moving there for grad school...

Is it expensive (everywhere is more expensive than Missouri I guess) to live there?

Could somebody tell me more about the area?

oopps wrong forum

Maybe off-topic would be better... Maybe not...

Are you *gasp* conservative?

Where are you going for grad school?

Yes, it's incredibly expensive there. Second highest cost of living in the country IIRC. But very beautiful, and a great atmosphere. I was able to live there for 3 years and loved it.

I lived there from 1984 until 1988. It's a beautiful place to live. Not too far from other great CA attractions like Frisco, Yosemite, Medicine Lake, etc.

Monterey is right next door to Carmel, Pebble Beach, Big Sur, etc. Highway 1 along the Big Sur coast is one of the most picturesque driving roads in the world.

But, yes, it is expensive, especially the property. If you have any wealth at all, invest it ALL into some decent property in the area and just watch it appreciate in value. We have some friends there that bought property in the mid-80s for like $100K and it's work well over $5 million now.

There is no city, town or village called Frisco in California.
There is San FRancISCO but you have to butcher the name in order to get that other word.
It's simply a way to show (as if we really needed a way) how "Red" one's neck is.

😛 I know people in the Bay Area HATE it when their beloved town is called Frisco!

Suck it!

Well, that cannery row is long gone and has been replaced by a MYRIAD of COMMERCIAL enterprises. The Aquarium down there is one of the biggest tourist attractions in the State.
