As others have already stated, you can find vegetarian options at most fast food places if you look hard enough. My personal favorites for fast food are sub/sandwich places and Mexican. You can always get a meatless/cheese-less (vegan) sub with avocado and double the veggies on whole wheat bread at any of the popular chains. Likewise for the mexican places, they all have bean burritos, tostadas, tacos, etc.The biggest thing to look out for in mexican food is lard in the refried beans. If you're serious about being a vegetarian, you will want to verify that their refried beans are made without lard.
Aside from fast food joints, local grocery stores are really the best places for a quick and satisfying vegetarian lunch. Most grocery stores have fresh fruit and vegetables already washed and cut up in the produce section, and some of the higher-end grocers have soup/salad/baked potato bars. I'll usually grab a pint of soy milk, a bag of prewashed sugar snap peas, and a container of pre-cut fresh pineapple for lunch. Other times I'll just hit the salad bar. If I'm hankering for a sandwich, I'll grab a couple fresh rolls from the bakery, get a package of pre-sliced smoked "tofurkey" from the health-food section and a tomato from the produce section ( I carry a pocket knife for slicing veggies and fruits).
Anyway, just some ideas. Eat what you like. If you want to just eat healthier and keep the meat, then just lay off the fried starches, sugary sodas and saturated fat ladened burgers. Eat out less often, and try packing a lunch from home, as anything home made is almost always healthier than what you get with fast food. Keep lots of whole fruit on hand too. Apples are great for energy to keep you going throughout the day, and they are filled with lots of natural sugars and fiber.
I could go on, but I think I've said enough for now. After all, I don't want to ruin my lurker status.
