this badboy...

has 150 dollars worth of rebates

this one...

has 200 bucks worth of rebates

if both of them are @BB B&M, that's 24 months of interest free financing

what do you guys think would be the better value?

*edit*
what do you think about this one guys?

Be warned that those lappies have desktop procs in them. That means seriously reduced battery time, more heat and more weight.

If you're OK with that, ignore me. :)

Fat laptops are for big fat people.

So true, i for one will never buy a laptop powered on desktop processor. :)

Neuro, first time buying laptop?

- Would you & your laptop travel alot?
- Would it be a gaming machine?

Personally, i wouldn't buy laptop that's heavier than 5 lbs and thinker than 1.5".
IBM, Dell and Toshiba are on top of my list.

Don't even consider Sony, fancy stuff that tend to break after a year or two besides their Fancy appearance. :)

i probably won't play games (stopped doing that), prob just office, aim, and many many many ie windows

What about an IBuddie?

My friend has one, and I think its sweet, and you can upgrade pretty much whatever you want....
Might not be for you though...

I was at lunch with the misses.

Are you only looking at laptops BB is selling because of the 24 months financing or are you open to other places?

I can see that BB is appealing because of the 24 months financing and rebates but you can get a better laptop for less if you can pay using a regular cc.

IBM ThinkPad R30 or R31 for $1,099

R30:
Model 265660U
Processor Type/Speed1 Mobile Intel® Pentium® III Processor - M 1000MHz
Memory6 128MB
Hard Drive2 30GB
Display 14.1" TFT - active matrix 1024x768
Operating System3 Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition
Fax/Modem Ethernet & Modem Included
Media Device DVD-ROM
Travel Weight4 5.3 lbs
Thinness5 1.42 inches
3.5 Floppy Drive Not Included
Limited Warranty period One year parts and labor (system battery: one year)
AC Adapter Included
Battery Included

R31
Model 265677U
Processor Type/Speed1 Mobile Intel® Pentium® III Processor - M 1066MHz
Memory6 128MB
Hard Drive2 20GB
Display 14.1" TFT - active matrix 1024x768
Operating System3 Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional
Fax/Modem Wireless Ethernet & Modem Included
Media Device CD-RW
Travel Weight4 5.3 lbs
Thinness5 1.42 inches
3.5 Floppy Drive Not included
Limited Warranty period One year parts and labor (system battery: one year)
AC Adapter Included
Battery Included

It's a no brainer, the BETTER laptop in all respects is the IBM.

why yes you are very correct at 24 months no interest financing

however, i don't have the credit necessary on a single card to buy a lappy otherwise (eh too lazy to ask for a credit limit increase)

oh yeah, and i need way way more than 128mb of ram lol

512 is an absolute minimum

and thx for the replies guys ;)

DO NOT buy a laptop which comes with 512MB RAM default that's a waste of money, buy RAM separate from Crucial.com or elsewhere. Most BB laptops come with 256MB RAM by default (unfortunately it's usually 2x128MB).

Everything that's replaceable on a laptop can be replaced really easily. The problem is that not everything is replaceable.

On a thinkpad, I could swap ram, HDD, PCMCIA cards, and the battery in about 5 minutes total, but that's all I could swap.

I couldn't agree more. :D
Buy IBM if you could.

Did i mention IBM has the BEST Warranty service? Hands down.
You might think Dell has pretty good service for laptop, wait until you experienced IBM warranty service.

Replacing RAM on most laptop is like a 2 minute stuff, dont worry there.

If I were you (since you were looking at the Dell laptop deal in my sig a few days ago) I would campaign to have RossMAN banned from AT, otherwise risk increasing your cc debt!

BAN da RossMAN!
