I live in Las Vegas - anyone have experience with SunRocket in LV? I love the price and the offers they have but if the service really sucks I'd rather pay the extra $$ for Vonage...

Do some research on the @ dslreports.com and you might decide to go with someone else.

I've never had any major problems outside of the documented outages which I didn't even notice.

You sound like you've read up on them. I have read some horror stories but then I've read that many people havent had any problems so I was wondering if these area minority of the subscribers.

other than the system wide outages, my only problems are due to my ISP

so i don't know what number to rate it, but i can tell you that i am not switching or dropping it

in fact i have been doing it month to month at $25 , i need to get around to paying the $199 for the full year to save even more

i voted 8 -- and am basically a very happy customer since last February

I would have voted 9 or 10, but the unstable period about a month ago came at a very critical time for me -- so 'wondering if it was working today' was stressful.

The warnings on the website (when a current customer logs in) about them performing maintenance and 'if your phone isn't working, reset the gizmo [their name for the adapter thingy]' are gone, and i've had no problems since....
Hopefully it stays that way -- as all the included features are quite nice. I'll give some lee-way for failures relating to growth, but if i get the sense that random failures will be standard practice, then i will jump ship. I'm not sensing that that is the case, so I'm sticking with them.

I'd definately recommend trying it. Give it a work-out for a month for $0 cost if you are unhappy or have any doubts at the end of their 30-day no risk guarantee. (Not even shipping costs) Maybe wait a month before porting your phone# over.

[shameless plug]feel free to pm me for a referral[/shameless plug]

i'm not in LV, but i'm a happy sunrocket customer

i've never picked up the phone and not heard a dial tone, although once a call went straight to voicemail and never rang here

you can't go wrong trying it, you get some really nice free phones

I use ViaTalk and have had zero problems. They have caller ID WITH name, simultaneous ring, voicemail to email, and I believe they are about the same price as Sunrocket.

I have had solid service for a while now. I think that SR may have had their scare and are back on track. Its worth trying for yourself since they don't have activation/cancellation fees.

Montano-

For being a small service with very few users Viatalk has been having lots of problems reported on dslreports as of late.

BTW, Viatalk is definitely more expensive than SR and the yearly rate comes only with a 50% money back guarantee in case you want to cancel. SR gives all the money back.

Let's not start with the features here. SR has about double the features Viatalk has at a better price. And, btw, there is also CALLER ID WITH NAME, also voicemail to email, but SR also has voicemail notifications galore, voicemail screener with intercept, etc.

Big question: Why would one want to STAY AWAY from trying this? Equipment is free. Shipping is free. There is no setup cost, no penalty if you cancel, full refund. PLUS you get to keep a $65 phone system for your troubles. There is a 31 day trial during which you can call anywhere in the world, and if you don't like it you cancel before the 31 days are up and owe nothing. No better way to try if this works for you.

Boy, your recommendation of Viatalk could not have come at a worse time. They are in the midst of a gigantic outage right now. Looks like 40 hours and counting......

Drizzy-

The thing is that you can try it for yourself and see how it works for you. SR pays the shipping and you get the 2 free phones. You an try this for 31 days and before the 31 days are up if you don't like it for whatever reason just tell them. They won't charge you anything for the month of calling. You also get to keep the 2 phones as a free gift for trying out the service. So, you can't really go wrong.

Yeah, if you're thinking about it, go ahead and try it. You've got nothing to lose with their 31 day deal.
