some people have waaaay too much money. send that 1500 to me, i'll puty it to good use.

OH! Come on! It's a trophy dog, of course. Conspicuous consumption. Bragging Rights. Vanity. My dog is better than your dog, etc.
I have the best of both worlds... a mutt I saved from the Humane Society and a Rat Terrier(not super pricey but $300). They are both cool in their own ways.

My sister has 2 pedigreed papered Australian Shepards that cost over a grand each. I wouldn't trade my mutt for both of them, lol.

yea stay away from 4 yr old. early socialization period is in the first year, important and u dunno wtf happened to that dog. leave it to the professional type rescue people.

as for cost,, its irrelevant if u can afford it. cost per year is not much if u get what you really want and are happy. thats all that matters after all

Indeed, and substantially less expensive.

You realize breed cost are supply and demand?

If you want to get the coolest dog out there, fine. spend your money as you see fit but stop asking other people's opinions.

And he's a rescue project. ;)

Malamutes really need proper socialization when they're young or they can be pretty aggressive as older dogs. They're GREAT when well trained, but a real handful if not raised properly.

For those of you who can't imagine spending the $ on a dog, please post your computer specs.

Buying expensive computer parts doesn't leave living things to die, simply for cosmetic reasons -- and there is a quantifiable difference. Your metaphor is completely nonsensical. All you really said is "it makes sense to spend money on a dog because people sometimes spend money on other things"

My metaphor is "you spend your money on what you want to, I spend my money on what I want to."

- How are you going to afford this with your statistics graduate studies pending?
- Will you question why pedophile laws don't apply to dogs?
- What if you find that your dog believes in God? Will you advoate its execution?

Now you're the one trolling. Move on.

If its anything like a siberian husky, I'd stay away from it. They are sweet dogs, but hard to train, not very good at defending the family, and like to dig and run free. I speak from experience.

We have Samoyeds, and they are essentially the same type of winter breed, but very loyal, sweet, trainable, will defend your family and bond with the kids. I recommend you find out as much about this breed's disposition before buying on looks.

Yet Another I Want To Be Pimping My Pedigree Dog Thread.

pound/shelter.

Most of the sled dogs would be really happy making a den of your couch when you are at work.

I grew up rural too. I've had mutts and purebreds. My personal preference is Great Danes, not because they're purebred but because I like the characteristics of the breed. I know the energy level, general temperment, care requirements, etc for a Great Dane. I'm quite happy to get an adult dog that needs rescuing from a Dane rescue association. But I don't bug people who want to buy purebred pups - they may like certain breeds for certain characteristics, and maybe they want to enjoy the puppy stages, train the dog to get along with certain requirements (for instance, not all dogs like horses as adults, you need to train them as pups) or get the benefit of a full adulthood for the dog.

The amount of judging on somebody who just wants to buy a purebred, for crying out loud, is ridiculous. Save the judging for the people who don't spay/neuter their pets and wind up PUTTING all those dogs in shelters.

Doubtful that you will find a hypoallergenic small dog like my $1000 purebreed Havanese at the ASPCA or I would buy one. My little sister lives with my aunt and uncle and if I ever want my aunt to able to come over to my house (horrible allergies) my puppy has to be one of 5 breeds: Poodle (ugly), Havanese (what we went with), Maltese (not good with kids unless brought up with them), Bichon Frise (aunt already has one, apparantly that means my gf won't get one), or Chinese Crested (ugly). So some people have specific requirements for dogs that can't be met by mutts. Don't blame us for dying dogs, blame the irresponsible people who buy/breed/don't fix them.

Yes, because you worked hard to earn that money and you should have the decision of how other people spend it.

You don't have to pay $1000 for a Havanese. You should be able to find a hyoallergenic dog at a shelter as well. There are also more than likely havanese rescue organizations.

Your choice was dictated by wanted the purebred Havanese, not due to 'health'; there were options.

$1000-5000, I would not consider too much for a pet that is going to spend a good portion of your life with you. However; at least down here in S. Florida, it's the same people that went out and put a 50" plasma on their equity line when they were 5 figures...that drive in whatever new $30-$40k car is out...yet have a freaking ghetto house, that will plop down a few grand for bragging rights and then let the dog wander through the neighborhood.

What I find is classic is I have yet to see any ad for purebred pups of any breed that did not come from a 'Champion' bloodline. Anytime someone starts talking about how 'Cujo' is from a longline of 'Champions' and his $4000 price tag was a bargain; it's almost laughable.

Personally I pick from rescues and pounds. Mixed breeds usually offer the greatest chance of good temper and health. This is why those that use animal actors usually will not choose purebreeds.

OP, if it's a breed you want, BUY the dammed thing. Why do people rag on someone for how they spend THEIR money? It's not like it is coming out of YOUR pockets...

Buy WTF you like, and tell the rest to piss off...
