Thinking about getting married..

Any problems with this? I'm 17, found a girl that's willing to do it...as far as I know, if I get married, then I'm not a dependant under my parents anymore.

I'm going to talk to my lawyer soon about it, and if I go through with it I'll get a prenup...but any other things to worry about? Do you guys think it's unethical?

You're 17 and can afford a lawyer but can't pay for college? 😕

That really is fvked up.

Just pull loans like everyone else.

I hope you go through with this, and she divorces you and finds a loophole in your prenup and takes you for everything you have, or don't have.

My parents make around 50k a year after taxes, and my sister is already in college, but that's not the point. They're going to help a little bit for the first year and that's it. I have a lawyer because she's a family friend.

This might not even be necessary as I got a 30 on my ACT, and I'll probably get some decent money for that, but I was just wondering what you guys thought about the idea.

To be honest I'm suprised more kids don't do it..I guess I'd feel a bit bad doing it, as it's almost as bad as people that sign up for welfare that just don't want to work, but atleast I'll be putting the money towards something productive..*shrug*

Definitely, we need more people taking advantage of the weakening system.

Well, to be quite honest, I think it's pretty unfair that my income is based off of my parents even though they wont be helping out after the first year (and even then it'll just be for food and the like). I don't know why it's set up like this...I'll be 18, that should count as being on your own.

It's as unfair for everyone else as is it for you. Why do you deserve special treatment? Pull the loans you cheap ass.

So, you're 18, are you living on your own, supporting yourself? If so, then you are on your own. Since you're living at home, and your parents do the vast majority of your life support, you are not self sufficient. Quite simple to understand.

I WILL be living on my own. I get to come home the first summer after college and that's it. Food and medical expenses help, but I'll probably end up paying for most of that myself anyways. I was raised to be independant...I buy all my clothes, pay my car insurance and gas, if I go out to eat I pay for it myself, etc...all on money that I earned. It's been that way since the 7th grade.

I don't think I deserve special treatment- I think everyone in my situation should get this treatment. I'm taking it upon myself to do that for myself...is it really that big of a deal?

I'm trying to get both sides of the arguement here, so don't take this as me trying to start a flamefest 🙂

That really is fvked up.

what he means is, he's 17, his parents have lots of money so THEY can afford a lawyer but THEY don't want to pay for his college, they'd rather he got the loans and grants that should go to someone who REALLY can't afford college.

pretty disgusting if you ask me. it's bad enough that we have poor free loaders but rich free loaders really piss me off.

Oh so now you're mr. independent. does anyone else see the Irony in this?

Get a freakin Job, i'm 19 in college as well and did not get married to pay for it.

Like I said, the lawyer is a family friend.
And it doesn't matter to them, I'd be the one paying for it. I don't think 50k a year is all that much income, and they work damn hard for it, as neither of them went to college.
