Thinking about getting an Opteron 146

I have been hearing that the new 939 Opterons can OC like a champ. I have been thinking about getting a new PC for a bit and wanted to see how far I can push an Opteron with stock cooling or maybe a really nice after market HS.

I know every chip is different so you can't tell me exactly what I will get. I just want a ball park figure.

If I can get 2.8GHZ-3.0GHz with air cooling and it does not sound like a jet taking off I will be buying one today.

Here is the chip I am looking at:

I think 2.6-2.7 w/o Jet Engine noises is realistic 2.8-3.0 you'll likely need a bad ass mobo, and RAM that can clock well.

Edit: I've yet to see a stable 3.0GHz on air OC'd Opteron system posted here in the forums. which could tell you something.

Even a 2.6 OC is pretty good.

I guess if I want the 2.8-3.0 range I will need water cooling.

Yeah my rapidly aging FX-51 @ 2.4 is helluva fast. 2.6 and above is freaking awesome. IF you can achieve 2.6 You've got yourself a FX-55 for dirt cheap. What kind of air are you considering using on this setup?

Buy it. You should be able to get those speeds if it's a decent chip . . . and I saw someone on these boards who got a CABNE (OEM) from Newegg . . . yumm.

Edit: Nevermind, I think the CABNE may have been a 148? Meh. Whatever.

I think the Zalman 7000 might not be enough..

Now, I have the 7700 and have temps in low 40's at 1.5v and 2.68g ( 3800 X2 )
Also it is very quiet..

Here's a much better price than the Egg..
