a zune site should explain all of that to you. but i think you could do alot better than a zune.

How you put music on it depends on the device. With an iPod I believe you have to go through apple's ******-tastic iTunes gadget, with a Zune I don't know. A good device would show up as a removable drive for universal drag and drop, unfortunately some companies don't want to make it too easy for you.

Codecs are mostly universal. Any decoder will read an MP3 from any encoder. There are certain rare exceptions when it comes to surround formats and possibly high resolution encoding.

I just recently purchased a Zune, and to me it is the best disk drive player I have owned. My previous models were an iPod and a Creative Vision:m. This is just me personal preference but the Zune is easy to use, not bloated with needless crap, and the software works. Very nice device, a little bigger yes, but a bigger screen and I love the feel of the device itself.

Was it easy to use? I've got about 14 gigs of music I'd want to put on it.. I'm going on a week long trip to the east side in a few days and thats why Im getting this. But I dont want to spend forever getting all my music on there and working.

I might be an anomaly here but I actually love my iPod nano. It's freaking tiny and I have not had ANY issues with playing any of my mp3's. I have files on my computer from when Napster 1st started, Scour Exchange, WinMX, mIRC, etc. and I haven't had ANY issues playing any of those files. iTunes is easy to use. All you do is pretty much check mark the songs you want to go in your iPod.

Just letting you know that I have never owned a mp3 player before this so my opinion is probably flawed.

I second the Zune. Sure, it's not stylish or atractive, but it just works, in the same way that microsoft mice just work.
