Thinking about getting a new Chrystler 300...

Hello, I've had an audi A6 for the past 2 years and it has caused many many problems. The latest one is now the brake light keeps going on but the mechanic said there's nothing wrong with the brakes and that they want to replace the brake sensor (1700 dollars!). I've decided this is too much and that I will sell it. It's a 2000, with around 99.5k miles. Anyone know what a good asking price might be(the only problem right now is the brakes)?

As for my new car, I'm thinking about getting a chrystler 300. Will these provide the same luxury and comfort my A6 did? This is my first domestic car, so I'm wondering how reliable it is and if it has the nice little features my audi did...I plan on spending between 25-27k on the car depending on how much I get for the A6 (should I try private listing or just do a trade in?). Also I was wondering, will it be a big difference going from 4wd to 2wd?

If anyone thinks I should get a different car please specify (I was looking at maybe lexus or the Caddilac CTS). Thanks for all the help!

IMO, the only 300 to buy is the 300C with the V8. The others are not sporty enough.

There is nothing wrong with the 3.5l in the non-hemi 300. It is practically the same engine that has been in the 300m for years. Definately not sluggish in the least part.

Even the 2.7L Intrepid was not 'slow' in terms of highway passing and the like; the 3.5L doesn't have the testosterone of a hemi, but it should get the job done.

Did you have the sudden-transmission-death problem in your A6? My aunt has replaced the tranny in her A6 4.2 3 times; the last time the bill was over $10K!!

300M is also a very nice car, but FWD will probably not please you as much as RWD or AWD if you really like 'driving'.

I have the 300M and I agree with Ikonomi about only getting the 300C. The V8 has nothing to do with my opinion because I'm sure the 3.5 is quite fast. It's just that anything other than the 300C has features that look a bit on the cheap side. :thumbsup:

Well, up until Saturday morning, I drove a 300M, so I know the 3.5 pretty well.

The M weighs 3600 pounds or so, while the new 300 weighs in at around 4100. That's a lot of weight for that engine to pull, as it took well over 7 seconds to get the M 0-60, and that was with the tiptronic. Do the non-Hemi 300s get the autostick transmission?

Anyway, that's just my opinion. The 300s are all very nice cars; the C is just a cut above in terms of features, power, and trim. The 3.5 is a great engine with a fair amount of power. I wouldn't at all call it sluggish, but like I said, I don't know what harnessing it with 4100 pounds does. I imagine it loses less power paired with the new transmission than it did in the M, as well.

Not yet thank god (BTW mine is only a 2.8)!

I noticed when I was comparing features, that I would be losing a lot of the features my Audi has by not getting the C (such as heated seats, bose stereo, wood trim, power seats with lumbar and many features, dual climate control, sunroof, cargo net). Thanks for the comments guys. BTW 300Mdemon, how is the insurance rate for these (does anyone think it might be higher than my audi?)?

Except that the new car is hundreds of lbs heavier and it's rear wheel drive so you are going to lose more power through the drivetrain than in the FWD car. I imagine it will not perform as well as the previous version did with the same engine.

Any firsthand experience or are you regurgetating what others have told you?

I have owned 5 DCX vehicles and nothing has gone wrong with them that I A) didn't cause myself or B) didn't expect. My daily drivers for the last 4 years have been DCX vehicles and not one has left me stranded. My other car has a DCX engine and has given me no problems at all, in fact, people who know the engine remark about it's lack of oil leakage or problems.

My father has driven DCX vehicles for 40(!!) years. Since I can remember, he has never had any problems with them.

the only chryslers I've ever seen have unreasonable problems had mitsu engines that burned oil, and/or mitsu trannies that refused to shift into high gear.

My neighbors just bought a 3.5l powered 300 and they love it but they are older and less concered about power then I am. I would have to have the Hemi . The interior looks pretty nice to me and I think you can get all the dodads you want but it doesn't have the turtleshell trim like the 300c does. You will just have to go test driving and see if the v6 is enough for you. Might want to check out the Dodge Magnum aswell since its a little cheaper.

50, I can't really say objectively how insurance rates would be because in my situation I was coming out of a total loss vehicle when I got the 300M. However I couldn't imagine you paying that much (+-) than your Audi.
