I really don't understand your infatuation with the Si, even my hardcore Honda friends don't like it. Its incredibly watered down compared to the ones sold in europe or japan (less HP and torque than RSX-S i think)

ROTFL!

uh, is there something wrong with that statement? last i checked the cobalt SS beat all of its compeittors in every measurable manner (looks are subjective)

It lost 75 % of it's value already lol

If you don't want our advice why did you ask here? Honda isn't cutting the deals that many other makers are right now so you're just not going to get as good of a price. They make good cars but right now the cost for what you get is higher than you would get from another company. If you've decided to spend a few extra grand that's your choice. Just don't expect us to necessarily agree with you.

If you don't want our advice then quit trolling and go buy whatever you want. The cobalt is a solid choice even though ive had a terrible experience with them, (mine was a lemon)

I don't think the OP was asking about other vehicles to purchase, just the ones that he stated.

OP, my niece has a 2009 Civic I believe the DX. She loves it. To be honest with you, the interior space is comparable to her parents' -03 Accord if not more than.

Guys, read the Op again, is it feasible for
A college student to buy a new car ?

Me and my brother dropped 22k in cash on our vehicle our first year in high school.

Save and invest right and yeah, its certainly possible.

i mean, for the price, 18k for a accord lx is really a good deal. GTIs and MS3s are all expensive. My friend bought his GTI less than 5 months ago for 28k, and my other friend
bought a Mini for about 27k.

My friend has had numerious problems with his Mini, more than my 93 accord in less than a year. I just saw a new deal for 2.9 APR on a brand new Accord LX.

not gonna lie, i just checked out the MS3...that car looks sick inside !!!!
and also the ralli art lancer....that looks nice too !!

28K got a GTI............wow

I'm not really sure why you're asking us. You're asking advice on three different cars in three different segments.

The Honda Accord is a large sedan. The Civic Si is a compact, performance-oriented sedan. You even mention the Civic LX.

I'd say first figure out if you want a big car (the new Accord is actually classified as a full-size sedan now) or a compact. Then decide if you actually want a sport-tuned car.

😕

I'm also in the market for a Civic or Accord, and one of the dealers gave me ~$16,850 as the first quote for a Civic EX with a manual - so you could probably push down the price of an LX a bit more.

It's feasible, but do you really want to take on debt of car when you're in school? I'm not sure of your complete situation but make sure to look at the complete costs of the car before you buy it. This includes the total cost of buying it, financing it, insuring it, keeping it on the road (not everything is covered by warranty), etc. You may be in the situation to cover all that but just make sure you know everything before you make your decision.

this is what im pondering...i mean, sure i can cover it...financing it right now is cheaper....2.9 APR ?!?!! for a honda ?

my car is older, but it has random stuff come out of no where which takes money and A LOT of time...so its even more confusing.

As an owner of an 09 Accord LX I can tell you there are some specific differences between the lx and ex that not all people realize.

The EX has sound dampening material under the hood, front sway bar, upgraded stereo which if I recall correctly has an electronic noise reduction system, power driver seat, alloy wheels (lx-p and up), bigger wheels, and more horsepower without any loss in mpg. The Accord is one of the best handling cars for a full size car but it's not going to handle like a smaller car.

Also keep in mind 5th gear is an overdrive gear, it's dead for acceleration so you'll need to drop to 4th if you want to speed up at any reasonable speed.
If you do a lot of city or rush hour driving your mpg is going to suck. From what I've been reading on driveaccord and my own experiences, most people get around 25-26mpg on average but more agressive or heavy city drivers see 19-20mpg.

I'm not complaining but if I had to do it all over again I'd probably go for the Accord EX
However if you don't need the extra room and would rather have better mpg, you're better off looking at the Civic.

Have you considered looking for a $3000-4000 used car to replace yours until you finish school? Something cheap enough that you only need to carry liability. If you're not picky on getting one specific model or year you can find a good deal on a reliable used car.

28k for a GTI??? I paid 24k OTD for mine and I didnt even try that hard, they practically gave it to me for under invoice.

and i bet you've had more problems than me and my 20 year old mazda has ever had. i will never buy a honda, and i completely trust mazda's since i've owned this vehicle for 3 years and added 40,000 miles on it and my dads mazda 85 323 1.5i with over 300,000 miles on it with no major problems, just your regular maintenance until the suspension and exhaust went bad. but whats the point in arguing a moot point. each vehicle is different. there are who knows how many honda's that were lemon's.

I agree. Just this weekend I was given a first quote of $17.450 on an 09 EX sedan auto and $19,125 on the Civic Hybird. That does not include doc fee, sales tax or plates so I am sure there is still some room to negotiate.

Personally I wouldn't be trying to finance a new car while still paying for school (even though you have a stable job). I think you'd be better off with a slightly used vehicle.

Since you're set on Hondas, how are the prices for 1-2 generation old Civics and Accords?

Sticker is exactly what you are going to pay because that is what I originally asked the internet dealer to quote me on. When I emailed him back telling him he was nuts he gave me the pricing on the civics i mentioned above. As he said: " I actually gave you pricing on the EX, LX, and the EX with navi. And the price is MSRP. Not above. If you are looking for the deals the Civic might be the way to go. The Insight just got released a couple of days ago."
