Thinking about getting a maid. How much should I pay?

We had a maid look at the house and she said $100 for the first visit, $70 after that. It's a decent size 2-story house and the maid doesn't have to clean any of the bedrooms. Is she asking for too much or is this the going rate?

I would say it depends on location. I'm guess maid service here Iowa is a little bit lower than maid service in say....Southern California.

Sounds like a lot to me, but where are you located? And what does she do if she doesn't clean the bedrooms?

Is that the maid service where they clean your home naked? If so, that may be an okay price.

Location is Southern California. She'll clean the kitchen, 1 1/2 bathrooms, stairs, living room, dining room, and any other common areas that my roommates and I share. We've decided to clean our own bedrooms.

How big is your house? My neighbor pays $125 for the same maid to clean the entire house. He tells us she cleans for 5-7 hours straight.

my mom owns a housecleaning business. I think she charages $85 now, maybe more. But her clients have some huge houses, and her maids clean for abolut 6-7 hours.

we pay 65 bucks and she comes once a week to clean the house... our house is a somewhat large one story house... she does the laundry, windows, dishes, bathrooms, vacuums, tidys stuff up, washes the tiles, whatever odds and ends my mom asks her to do,

Seriously, I'd pay a maid at least $20/hour if she's trustworthy (licensed and bonded?).

My buddy in Chicago lives with 2 other bachelors. They had a college chick (maid) do the cleaning... and she quit after a few visits. It was getting a bit too nasty for her. 😉 What a way to make money thru college huh ? Clean up guys' messes...

I'm trying to ask him how much it cost them... but he's not answering me on IM at the moment. I think she worked for the apt. complex and not as a 3rd party hire though.

This maid will be cleaning our messes made by 5 young guys. I wish she looked like J.Lo but then again, if she looked like J.Lo she wouldn't be in this line of job. 😀 $70 divided 5 ways isn't too bad ... I hated doing chores anyway because only half of us actually cared what the place looked like after cleaning vs. the others who didn't and always did a shotty job.
