thinking about getting a Mac

I am thinking about getting a mac as a second machine. I wanna use it for testing websites that I develop on, and also for playing around with OS X. I wanna spend as little as possible. What would be a decent setup either new or used? I don't wanna spend more than $600 if I don't have to.

Is it possible to use a normal monitor on a Mac, or is it a propritory connector?

Regular monitors will work fine on a Mac.

I guess you'll have to get a used g3 or something. Also, getting the programs (like photoshop, Flash, Dreamweaver etc) will probably be harder...since not that many stores have them...unlike the PC version......wink wink.

Go for an older g4 such as a 400-500mhz because the g4 optimizations really help with the speed of OSX

The connector is propriatary but you can easily buy a $15 adapter that'll allow you to use a pc monitor.

I have a G4 Titanium and I love it 🙂

you are definitely gonna need a g4 for os x. even the ibooks are slow with os x since they are g3s

hey i have a g3 powerbook (laptop) for sale. 350mhz/128mbram/3 gig hdd/osx pm me if you want it 🙂

If you want a desktop machine, you might be able to get a g4 IF youre lucky. You can build one like that for sure tho

EDIT: g3s run osx just as well. Theres about 15% performance increase from g3 to g4 ofthe same clock speed. The main advantage of g4 is altivec - > 128bit vector acceleration
