Thinking about getting a dog in the future... Reccomendations?

Looking for your reccomendations... 🙂

I've ALWAYS loved yellow labs, but being that i dont have my own backyard in my current complex i wouldnt feel right with a big dog that needs room to play....

I want an outgoing dog that dosent bark all that much, is good for peeps with allergies, and isnt a tiny runt that i could step on.... I would also like to find one that has the ability to be calm at times, no hyper dogs 🙂

Gonna be taking a trip over to my local Pet Rescue later this week just to get an idea...
 
Bulldog is a great appartment dog. They have cool personalities as well, though I wouldn't know about their intelligence (if this is even important).

Mastiffs are cool dogs, and though huge don't like a lot of exercise (just the normal walks you would give them).
 
I wanted to get another dog till my homeowner/renter insurance sent me a waiver indicating they no longer cover injuries or litigation damage caused by personal ownership of a dog. So check you ins.and see where you stand. My agent advised me aggressive breeds like pitbulls and rot's are a huge litigation hazzard in todays sue crazy enviroment..goodluck......
 
Really depends on your personality, activities, what you want from the dog, who it will interact with, etc.

Personally, I like Belgian Malinois, German Shepherd, Alaskan Malamute, Rhodesian Ridgeback, Harrier, Foxhound, and Bloodhounds.
 
Bestest = Rhodesian Ridgeback.

They are used to hunt friggin' lions. If thems not some bragging rights, I don't know what is. 😀
 
Just goto the pound and find a dog that you think matchs your needs. Most shelters will let you take one home for a few days to try out. I'd get a mutt of some kind. Seems like almost every pure breed dog I have had has some kind of problem, skin conditions, allergies, hip problems, seizures, wierd personallity problems, and on and on but the mutts never seem to have any problems.
 
I did soo much research on this. Labrador Retriever is the best dog all around IMHO. Just the right balance of looks and intelligence, the latter being pretty exceptional.

I agree we picked up a dog from the animal defense league(no kill shelter here) and she has been a great dog.
Not sure what she is, but she is some sort of hound.
 
My family's also looking to get a dog (preferably a puppy) since we finally have our own house with a bug backyard. Itd be great having a dog around the house just giving you those "WTF?" looks all day 😀
 
I love my black lab and as long as you walk them regularly then having one in an apt would be fine, but it depends on your dedication. Personally I can't stand little dogs and if your anything like me you won't settle for a rat.

IOW, you want a pet rock. Dogs make noise, get under foot, tear stuff up and require lots of maintenance. If you cna't deal w/all that, get a goldfish in a bowl. 😉

Well i think i know what im getting into, i grew up with a dog...
 
no lab, there too hyper and annoying. They need room to run, I wouldn't want one in the house.

Best friend has a lab in the house and he's worse than Taz

you couldent provoke this dog if you tried. and i have.

only time he ever barks is when someone he dosent know comes to teh door. and even then its onl 2 or 3 barks and he just looks at you. you say hello and hes fine.

lil dongs like pomerians bark at him and he just looks at them all funny and dosent even care. he just walks away and pees on something
