Im with Cingular, and at the end of this month, my contract is over. I definetly want a smart phone. I want access to email and internet wherever I go. I really do like the Tmobile Sidekick III, as you can get on the internet (non HTML). But Id rather not go with Tmobile because of their reception/service (I've had them before.) So, i was thinking about sticking with Cingular and getting a Blackberry. anyone have one? How do you like it? How is web browsing on a blackberry? That is one of the primary reasons I want a smart phone.

Which one do you want? The 8700 or the Pearl?
The 8700 is pretty slick with web-browsing, especially if you are on an EDGE network. Images show up quite nicely and web pages load quickly. Also the websites are formatted to fit your device (as they go through the BlackBerry MDS server which reformats the website for your device and then sends the reformatted version). Note that data plans aren't cheap, and you will be transferring a lot of bytes if you get hooked on the whole web browsing thing.
Note I mostly visited news-type sites like www.itv-f1.com or www.f1-live.com

im not sure which one I want. I like the looks of the Pearl better, but I dont like the "keyboard" on the Pearl as I do with the 8700. The 8700 just looks easier to type on as it has a key for every letter.
As far as the data plans go, dont they have an unlimited data plan for a fixed monthly price?
they do, but those are pricey. Of course if you want that, then its not a problem anyway.
The 8700 is really easy to type on, you can get pretty quick. The Pearl is also very sweet, however I haven't used it as extensively as I've used the 8700. Do you care about typing? I figure the multimedia aspects of the Pearl would outweigh the easy of typing.

Do you know if the Pearl will be available for cingular? There have been some rumors 11/17/06 is the cingular release date for it, but I wasnt sure.

get it unlocked and use it on cingular. you won't regret it. For some reason the dash is not photogenic, it looks and feels much different IRL. If ever there was a phone that felt like it was meant to be cradled by your hand, this would be it. With all the features you need to boot, including wifi.
Yea, I read a couple reviews about it. It seems as though Cingular is the slowest when it comes to getting the good phones.
i have an 8700c on cingular and i dont really crae for it, the moto q is also sitting on my desk and its a lot better device.

I've got am 8700g, and i love it. It's much better with google apps and BBapp. Check out blackberryforums.com if you haven't already. They are great devices.

blackberry::smartphone is as mac:: pc
the thing is so damn bulky, the software is poor, the bes is completely overengineered and the integration with outlook/pop3/text messaging is ass. if my work supported something else i would defintely do it.

Excelent software, best build quality on any phone I have seen and if you want something of the shape of a blackberry then the e61 is what you need, if you want something smaller then the e50 does that except it doesnt have wireless still my favorite, all the other phones have wireless, but who cares, its extremely small and light.

If its mainly for web browsing I would suggest getting a windows mobile 5 based device since there are sites where the blackberry browser does not support, Pocket IE ensures compatability of most sites. I've owned 2 blackberry device the current one being the 8700c and forte of blackberries is the ability to have instantly "push" e-mail, the web browsing is pretty mediocre.
for web browsing I would still recomend the nokia phones over windows mobile phones, the pages I have checked out come out much better with nokia
well, cingular is due to release the Treos 680 and 750 soon.

We just switched from our 7520s to Pearls and as productive the 7520 is/was...I'm glad to be rid of that bulk.

Everyone doesn't call it a crackberry for nothing.
I went to a place to get lunch yesterday, went into the restroom to take a leak and theres a guy at the only urinial in there with his wang in one hand and his blackberry in the other, typing away.
Kind of disturbing that someone couldn't even go long enough to take a leak without using that thing.

Thats the great thing about being a guy. You can mutlitask at the urinal. Ever drink a beer or smoke a cigarette while at the urinal?
One of the things I like about the treo is that I can turn off the screen with a button and if the screen is turned back on, you can't actually do anything until you hit another button to essentially "unlock" the phone. So in essence, it locks itself automatically when you turn it off. This is great as when I keep it in my pocket, it naturally pushes buttons occasionally. Does the Dash also do this or when you press it's power button, is it unlocked or do you have to manually lock the keyboard every time?
