Thinking about getting a 94 Prelude SI 75000 miles, $4800 taxfree

94 Prelude SI 75000 miles, one owner blue. Carfax checks out .. He came down from $5.5k to $4.8k taxfree. I had the car checked out today at honda, and it only needs about $500 in minor body work and gaskets. Think I should go for it? It's a great low milage car, just needs a little work and it should be awesome. Thanks in advance for any advice!

edit: KBB values it at $5720 good condition private party, and $6700 retail.

FYI, he's giving me one more day to decide or he will sell it to someone else. I've been thinkin about it for a couple weeks now, seems like a nice ride for the price... I wanted a GSR, or VTEC ... but either with low miles will usually run between $7k and $9k.

From looking at the KBB value, it looks like a good deal. If you enjoy driving, then you should get it with a manual transmission. I've driven both 4th and 5th generation Prelude, and they're not at all exciting to drive in automatic. Of course, I've never driven a Prelude w/ manual either, but I'm assuming that it can't possibly get any less bland than the auto Preludes.

I'm a PT delivery driver and don't need the hassle of being stuck in traffic driving manual 5-8 hours a day. The automatic SI is actually fairly powerful, and a very comfortable and reliable ride...

Was it that gen that had the huge problems with the automatic trannies? Or was it the next gen...I forget...

I don't know about the 4th gen. Preludes, but the 5th(and last) gen. Preludes come with the notoriously unreliable SportsShift transmission.

I see 4th gen automatic preludes with 150k miles, original tranny. 🙂 I think its the newer 5th gen ludes that have garbage transmissions, if I recall correctly..

I was just about to say good deal, go ahead and buy it but then I see its an AUTO.
If you wanted an auto, why were you looking for a GSR ?? They don't come in auto.
If you definately want an auto, why not just get a non-gsr Integra ?? I personally think its way better looking.
You can find plenty non-gsr 94 and up Integra, <100K for $5000 or less.

I was goin to buy manual, but decided against it because my job requires me to drive hours every day. The stop and go traffic I see every day is a major PITA in a manual tranny car.. honestly I like the looks of 4th gen preludes more then the 94 LS, it handles much better, and the added 20HP makes it a much more fun car to drive IMO. 🙂

I think the 4th gen prelude was the best looking one out of the group but I still like my parents 98 Prelude. Heres a pic of after a claybar/wax job pic.

$4800 is a pretty good price, if the engine goes you can swap it out for the H22A VTEC motor then you'll really have some fun with the car. I would go for it.

i would say go for it, sounds like a great deal!
Also the 4th gen Preludes IMO are the best looking preludes, even the 5th gen look ugly in comparison

Forgot to mention that most ppl consider the H23 pretty boost-friendly. IMHO its certainly a lot better then boosting a H22😉
