Thinking About Electroshock Therapy For My Delusional Parasitosis

Edit: Ok so my doctor said the procedure requires me to be driven to and from the hospital by the same person each time and that I can't be different people, my uncle said he'll do it.

Seriously though, if this ECT doesn't cure my delusional parasitosis, I'm going to give up on my goals and just try to live the rest of my life on social security and plasma donations.





Since my late teens I have had this serious problem where I feel like bugs are crawling on me even though there isn't.

This made it very difficult to keep a job because I would be scratching myself all over my body, I was working at McDonald's a few years ago and I was fired because I was scratching too much.

I think I have this problem because my family breaded pitbull dogs and there was a problem with fleas, and I was the one who always had to take care of the dogs, so for most of my juvenile life I was bitten by fleas nearly everyday.


But I found the article below and it said that electroshock therapy was shown to help people with Delusional Parasitosis, so I'm interested.

If you think you have this problem because of the pitbulls as a juvenile, let me tell you about my lack of wanting to touch a pregnant woman's belly. Because I was told to goto bed, and sat from my bedroom door and watched Alien (1st one) after being told no I couldn't.

Anyway, does this only happen in the winter months, when ppl usually have dry skin that itches?

Kinda surprised I'm replying to a Gizmo thread, but hey, if you think you have this disorder, please reread the first couple paragraphs again. Says it could be a nutrient deficiency, and a couple others.

I would start simple. Try various skin creams like moisturizers, aloe vera etc, even if it's something that's happening mentally maybe somehow the creams will help by making your skin less prone to itch since maybe it actually is dry too. Depending on the severity of it maybe it won't do anything but worth a shot. Once you determine it really is all mental related I would consider seeing a psychiatrist as they might be able to help you out in general with whatever you may be dealing with. Trauma, PTSD etc.

This. Talk to a medical professional - like a psychiatrist (aka, a doctor trained in medicine and psychology) - and discuss any potential diagnoses and treatments with them.

Regardless of past experience, you're going to have to go through one anyway if you want electroshock therapy.

I will say I know someone who was suffering severe depression that didn't respond to other treatment and ended up undergoing ECT, and it was an absolute game-changer for her. It was a series of treatment over months, and not a pleasant experience along the way.

I too know someone via a friend who had good results from electroshock therapy. At one point in my past I thought about it as back then bouts with serious depression were crippling. I just find some humorous sounding connections via OT topics/posts sometimes. Was not my intention to belittle the form of therapy, more like have fun with current topics here.

Oh, I didn't really take it that way, just sharing a positive ECT result since it kinda doesn't have the best reputation in the modern era.

My doctor said he's going to try to get me electroshock therapy, I'm a little scared of the anesthetic, besides sleeping Ive never been unconscious before, not through drugs or a blow to the head either.

I've only been under a couple times, but for me it's been pretty much identical to going to sleep. They apply the drugs, and then suddenly it's later. I haven't woken up goofy or anything either time, feels like I got ripped off.
