On a serious note, I like my Fuji 2650 camera, although the zoom lens broke a few months after I got it and I had to get it repaired (under warranty). It was very affordable and it takes great pictures for a 2MP cam.

I've also used an Olympus 3MP camera pretty extensively, and it was also excellent.

Many people trust this site for digicam reviews.

I have a Kodak DC3400 and just bought the Olympus C-720. The Olympus is much better (duh), but the Kodak (at least the one I have) is a decent cam too.

On the Hot Deals forum yesterday, someone posted that Microcenter.com has a sale with all digicams for 20% off. This is a good "broad spectrum" sale, with the highlight being the Minolta Dimage S414 ($320).

I have the Canon s230 and I really like it. 3.2 mp, 2x optical. retails for 399 I think I got mine from Dell with a few coupons 340 shipped. What I really like about it is the 640x480 video mode. yoou can shoot 30 sec clips, which would be perfect to catch an at bat at your sons ball game. I burn my clips to svcd and they look great on tv. The new s400 video mode does not go this high, but it is 4 mp and 3x optical. both opf these cameras travel very nicely, they are very compact but solid in construction.

I would buy the Canon G2 off Ebay should be able to score on for around 400 bucks since the new G3's are out. I personally own both a G2 and G3 and they are excellent camera's

Best digicam brands:

1) Canon
2) Nikon
3) Sony (too bad they use Memory Stick crap)
4) Fuji & Olympus
5) Minolta

As was previously said, avoid HP and Kodak.

Use DPreview.com and their forums for doing more research. You can't go wrong with Canon: A70, S30, S40, S45, G2, etc.

Thanks a ton everybody. I am still researching it. I really like the Olympus C-720 from what I have seen. The CoolPix 3500 is running a good second especially beacuse of the pricing and rebate. I am about to start researching some of the Canons that some of you have mentioned.

I really appreciate all the help. Keep it coming :D

If you buy the Oly C-720 I would consider buying it from Dell, Staples or OfficeMax.com

OM.com usually has a nice $50 off $250 coupon with free shipping.

If you like your 995, why not take advantage of the $200 Nikon rebate on the 4500????

The 995 is not mine. It belongs to the company. The 4500 is just a bit out of my budget even with the rebate.

Doesn't it end up < $400 after rebate?

Yeah, most places sell for around $600 before rebate. Find a place with some freebies or a coupon and you're golden!

  • I personally like long optical zoom cameras. It makes the camera more flexible. However it will ake it a bit bigger so it wont fit in your pocket.
  • A possibility to do manual settings is cool too

Boiling this down leads to Olympus cameras of which I own a C720. (3MP, 8x Optical zoom)
I am very happy with it.

ditto, just picked it up at Office MAX (saw it in Hot Deals Forum) this past saturday for $300 :D

I've been playing with my new Oly C-720 too. Fun! Here's the second closeup shot I took.

Here's a picture that I took with the Kodak DC3400 (which, BTW, I am selling ;)--see sig)
