With everybody saying that BF1942 and SC4 need 1gb of ram, and with PC2700 being so cheap ($57 at mwave for 512mb), should I invest in some more ram for the future, or am I fine with the 512mb I have now? Any future games that will be ram-heavy? You can see my current specs in my sig.

Go get some ram now before the price rises again,If you dont you'll regret not getting it after.

1)the prices are very low now
2)future games like DOOM 3, Half Life 2 and Quake 4 should need this amount of RAM

Rumors state Valve should be releasing Half-Life 2 before the end of the year, in November to be more precise. Here is the story but it's in German.

Just remember if you OC you might not be able to run as high and your memory bandwidth scores will go down. Still in everyday use the extra ram will overcome those issues imo.

Excellent point EXman, exactly what I was thinking also. Although when they perfect the Granite Bay Mobo's that shouldn't be an issue anymo. Then running two 512 sticks will be optimized for Overclocking. For the time being, 512M should be enough for most peeps for the next several months at least...

Can't OC much with this 2100+ Palomino anyways :(. BTW, which of my parts will be out of date faster: my radeon 9500 pro, processor, or this pc2700 memory.

Edit: Even though I'm not running a game right now, I only seem to be using 155mb of ram with Phoenix, Winamp 3, and a few tray apps open - doesn't seem like that much to me.

Is it just the pc2700 that are cheap? cause looking at the pc3200 prices.. I wouldn't go as far as to call that cheap.

edit: doesnt matter, I'm looking at corsair prices :)

Looking at memory prices, I see that newegg can give me cheaper memory, but it is not the same brand - this shouldn't cause any problems, should it?

Too bad I don't have any of those! I currently have these games: Freelancer (after my replacement comes:() , Starlancer, GTA III, Mafia, Grand Prix 4, and Virtua Tennis. I plan to buy GTA:VC for the PC when it comes out, and that's the only games purchase i see right now. I also do some mp3 and VCD encoding. I run win2k, also.
