sorry i didnt bother reading the entire thread...

i always liked the modability idea, but what exactly does it achieve over a tv other than luggability? i men you could get those things media center could do done on PC just as well cant you? sounds like a fun mod and very inexpensive while at it, yet sorta redundant unless you are into exclusive x-box titles (i heard GA is better on xbox but oh well )

Well to update and maybe wrap up this thread, I got a PS2. Online bundle, with the network adapter and ATV Offroad 2. I also bought NHL 2K5 because I'm a hockey fan, and also got a memory card because Sony forces me to pay $35 for a stupid 8MB memory card. The RPGs in the end made me decide on PS2 over the other two systems.

One strange thing to note is that there is no firewire connector on the front of my PS2, unlike all the other ones I've seen. Strange.

good choice on the PS2... but why would a PS2 have a firewire connection? I've never seen that before.
The older models included 1394 right next to the USB ports. It was dropped in later models, as it had virtually no use compared with the USB ports (cost cutting, might have to pay royalties to Apple for the use of it). Later PS2 models also include things such as progressive output and "smoothing", a.k.a. bloom which introduces a fuzzy filter in an attempt to addresses aliasing without the performance hit of FSAA (although I absolutely hate bloom).
My PS2 box says it supports progressive DVD output. Does it make a difference for games? I've noticed some picture blurring around some of the edges of text and polygons (but really ugly blurring, not anything like antialiasing). I thought it was just because I'm using the composite output, so I was thinking about getting S-video. Would it make a big difference?

I think the progressive DVD output is for playing DVD movies in progressive mode and has no bearing on the game. As for blurring, could be one of many things. TV quality, cable quality... or maybe they just made it blurry on purpose.

Now all you need is an HDLoader, a non Western Digital 160 GB Harddrive, and a highspeed internet connection ;)
