I guess I'll also add that I was also looking at dell and Toshiba notebooks but none really fit what I wanted. I don't feel like shelling out the money for a Dell XPS and I don't want the 17" screen of the 9200. Then, the 8600 only has an ati 9600. The Toshibas didn't really have any with vid card options I liked in addition to other features.

Sony's are not good notebooks. I'd beware of IBM as well. Dell and Toshiba seem good, as well as Asus.

The Sony S Series are built very well. Not flimsy as other small notebooks. The Gateway 14" WXGA notebooks are good for the money but only use integrated video, so no games. If you're willing to pay the Sony prices. ASUS will be coming out in the next month with the W3V in the Sony price range, maybe even more. But it'll have 14" WXGA ultra-brite, Sonoma/Centrino CPU, X600 or X700 dedicated graphics card, 1gb memory, 80gb 5400rpm hard drive, dvd burner and come in either an aluminum or carbon fiber case. It should be the ultimate small wide screen notebook. Here's a long by detailed thread on it.

IF I wasn't waiting for these to come out, I would go with a Sony S.
