Then riddle me this:
Three people go to a hotel and get a room. It costs $30 so the three people split it 3 ways- $10 each.
They go up to their room and the guy running the place realizes it should only have cost them 25, so he gives the bellhop $5 to give to the 3 people.
Now the bellhop can't think of a way to split the $5 between the 3 of them, so he gives them each a dollar and pockets the remaining $2.
So now effectively, each of the occupants has paid 10-1 = $9 for the room. Total, they have paid 9 X 3 = $27. The bellhop pocketted $2, so 29 total.
Where's the other dollar?
