well here's what i do at my job all day, everyday.

I'm a "CA" or a computing assistant at a university in the summer, which means I sit in a computer cluster which NO ONE visits and sit there to attend to potential user questions/problems which dont exist in the first place because no one uses the computers!

at least i have a 100megabit connection and an anandtech subscription to kill some time :)

I'm not sure of your background, but you should have gotten an internship of some kind.

You'd still be inside, but you'd have a more impressive bullet on your resume.

And besides, this is preparing you for the "real" world -- where summer is just another florescent-lit work day. :)

Oh man, that sounds like my dream job. Sit there at a computer with a fast connection and not having to deal with people.

Yes I do think my job is boring - I don't have a job. And my last job was much worse than yours! Stop complaining, I'd love to have your job.

I work for a school system but I'm responsible for a building. This was my first year so they put me in elementary, so for the most part I have done exactly the same thing. I've had a couple days this year where no one showed up in my lab and no one asked for help outside it. I just got promoted to the new Jr. High next year, 4 labs and a new school full of people who are gonna have a bunch of new technology that they aren't ready to handle. So though right now is kinda boring I'm getting every last bit of slacking off done this year.

Sitting there and doing nothing and getting paid for it is actually not all it's cracked up to be. Trust me. I'd rather be busy all day at work, than have absolutely nothing to do. It makes the day go by much quicker, and you feel you've accomplished more when you have something to do all day.

the grass is ALWAYS greener on the other side. ive had both types of jobs at a university, i was part of Desktop Support where i walked around the entire campus, and at the time i used to wish i could just sit at a desk. i switched groups and am now part of applications and miss the days i could leave whenever i wanted. :(

I am also a computer technician at a university. Theres just me and my boss to maintain a couple of hundred PCs and macs. He always says that we are really busy, but doesnt put any of the work my way. The only thing keeping me here is the fact that my job is secure, as i got laid off from my last job.

yeah man the reason i have this job is that i broke my hand, so i am no longer with cluster support, which means i used to stroll the campus everyday, and got a lot accomplished...

oh how i miss those days

You want to know what I do? I sit at a computer and scan papers using a flatbed scanner. I can't imagine anything more boring.

You want to go outside and walk around all day during the summer? are you insane? the forecast high temp here is 101 degrees for today. I'll stay inside at my computer, with the air conditioning, thank you.

i got you all beat: a long time ago, i used to work at a floppy disk distribution company. my job along with 6 others was to sit down and flip the locks on floppy disks. all for a huge chunk of cash of $4.75/hr at first, but then we demanded more cash and got $5.75/hr...
