we have a 70-200mm Canon lense for the EOS-1D. It looks really similar to that one, but the switches aren't the same, and it looks like yours has a weird adapter thingy. I always love to use it because you can get shots of stuff that is incredibly far away. Great lens.

Anyone else have problems viewing the direct linked?: Stritch

RE: your PM, ah yes - EF 200mm f/1.8L USM. THAT's a sweet beast! Why would Canon discontinue that lens? From what I read, nothing else touches it; from any manufacturer and you got it for a good price IIRC.

I look forward to seeing your shots and hearing your stories if you shoot any kids sports this summer. I have three kids three and under and have been to quite a few local school games. The Mom's are feeding frenzied sharks carrying pocket camera's networking w/each other for the best shots. I'll use my kids as an excuse to stake out some sideline real estate and see if a little blood in the water will draw some attention. That's it, yeah, use the kids as leverage :D.

It works now. PBase is just a little flakey sometimes I guess.

that's an incredible lens man. I can't wait until PMA is over to decide on what DSLR I will purchase. the Nikon D70 looks nice but it only has a 5-point AF instead of the Canon's 7-point system.

Your 70-200 f/2.8L is the non-IS version if it doesn't have those switches. The two extra switches are for the Image Stabilizer modes and IS on/off. Otherwise, your non-IS and my IS version are optically identical whereas glass is concerned. The 70-200 throughout its range is often argued as being optically good as primes within the same focal range. Even that the image quality is worth arguing as being comparable is a significant statement regarding a zoom lens.

That weird adapter is a Canon EF 1.4 EX II(Tele extender). Basically, this one extends your zoom range by x1.4 (though it adds one f/stop in the process).

Thanks for looking.
