Think this would be a nice layout for a site?

I want to start a site, not sure what I'll do with it yet, but I always begin with the design (I'm using notepad). Do you think it could look good with this? Thanks for any comments...

I put it up on my site : Website

Not bad for starters. I think I'll need to see a little more before I can offer more of an opinion.

Sigh.. What's so complicated about copying it, pasting it, and saving it as an HTML file? Oh well, fine, I'll upload it somewhere if I can.

edit: nevermind, thanks :)

Yeah, I am just inquiring to see if my basic layout is good to go from.. or if I should start over. I think I did a pretty good job on the tables. :)

Since I only have a beginner's grasp of html, I have to rely on what uploaded. So far it looks clean, but there really isn't enough content to judge accurately.

Good start though.

Hehe.. I find that funny. :p I know there isn't enough content to judge accurately, I was asking for an opinion on the *design*. :D But to be honest I really don't know what to put up there yet .. What would you suggest? Gigs of pr0n and warez? hmm.. fear of bannage :p But seriously, I think maybe I'll have a section for computer crap, and the rest will be on all kinds of other things, I dunno..

ummm... basically you have no design... are you saying that that is all your page is giong to consist of? a design is a design, that doesnt look like a design ;)

IMHO you should spend a few days and think about content before you worry about layout. Content is the hardest part. I threw my page up quickly and then realized that I don't really have that much I want to share with the world. I don't sell anything, my wife would kill me if I put porn up there (besides, there are already way too many porn sites out there), and I have no hardware/software tips that are original.

If you are gonna make it a family page with pictures of you, your friends, etc, then kewl. If not, worry about the content and I'm sure everyone here will be more than happy to help you with the design.

You really don't have much "design" up to accurately judge. As I said, it looks clean :)
As for content, I would recommend something with related content, for example, computer stuff with different categories involving computers. Sites that have all sorts of stuff mixed in don't seem to have clear concepts and usually don't make for god websites.

:) :D

How about if the mlahx sections were "Contact", "About", "Computers", and "Jokes"? The computers part could branch off into a bunch of computer related stuff, about would just be stuff about me, friends, and whatever.. Contact would be contact info obviously. Jokes would contain jokes, also quite obvious. :p

Is that too mixed up or..?

i agree. layout almost always goes based on what content you have. first think of the content that you wanna have

as for the layout, it's been done. nothing very new or whatever. it looks to plain right now. experiment with tables and dhtml effects

Why?
What you just did takes under 60 seconds to do in Dreamweaver or any other html prog.. even free ones.
Not that being able to handle the raw code is a bad thing... it's just so unecessarly time consuming, mixing the code knowledge with an editor is the best thing IMHO.

And as the others said think of what your contents is going to be first!
Doing the design first is a waste of time (not that you have a design now anyway). When you've figured out the content you're most defenetly going to change the design dramaticly anyway.

Is this a Aprils fools or something... never seen anyone poste raw html code before? And when we look at it, it's basically nothing.

 weird.
