After a lot of troubleshooting yesterday I'm pretty sure my motherboard is dying, I'm using a 5800X and I'm not sure if I should get a X570 or X670 board to replace my current board (MSI X470 Gaming plus). I've seen a few things saying X670 supports the 5000 series but nothing really concrete, I'd probably opt to go to that platform if I can so I have more options to upgrade my CPU in the future.

Anyways in case anyone is interested my PC randomly started locking up and rebooting like every 5-15 minutes yesterday, I didn't change anything with it I was just trying to watch a movie off of plex and it kept locking up or restarting. I'm using 2 M.2 drives (one WD black 1Tb and one Samsung 970 2Tb) along with an old 128Gb Sata drive. I disconnected the SATA drive and and tried each of the M.2 drives by themselves with no luck, same problem persisted. I managed to try a clean install of Win10 on each NVME drive as well and that did nothing to fix the problem either. I was able to run a memtest and it passed that, 0 errors. I'm leaning towards the motherboard because one of my USB ports stopped working completely maybe a month back, if I have a USB device plugged into that port my PC was refusing to boot, and if I plugged something in after boot it just doesn't show up at all. If I look in event manager I'm getting a lot of device setup errors and ETW USB Tracing errors so it makes me think the USB controller is dying or something.

If anyone has any other suggestions what could be wrong I'd appreciate it before I grab a new mobo and transfer everything over, would definitely suck to do all that and still have the same problem.

X570 is AM4 and X670 is AM5 so probably not. Pick a motherboard and then look up the CPU support.

Yeah I decided just to go for an X570 one so I don't have to upgrade my RAM, hopefully the motherboard is the problem and not my psu or something.

can you go to windows event viewer and see what critical faults are coming out?

That can usually help you debug first level on whats wrong.

You cannot use your AM4 CPU in an AM5 board, it is 100% incompatible. It is even physically incompatible as the pins are on the board now like Intel.

Things you can do before swapping boards. -

Run CrystalDiskMark on all of the storage to make certain they are in good health.

Check for overheating components.

Turn off XMP in the UEFI if you are using it with your ram. Memtest passing doesn't mean the ram is okay in windows when it's technically overclocked.

Try a different PSU. Flakey PSUs can cause issues including crashes and reboots.

Reseat everything physically including the CPU. That means all cables, ram, GPU. If you are tired of cleanup and repasting buy a Thermal Grizzly KryoSheet. No mess and it never dries up.

As an x470 user I'd advise this as a first step. Plus clearing the CMOS and then running everything at stock settings.
If it's stable then start dialling in memory settings manually to match the XMP settings a few at a time (start with the memory voltage!) until it starts erroring again.
My x470 5800x3d is rock solid stable now but it took some tweaking to get there and my board did not like it when I tried to use a 5900x in it (although that could have been a bad CPU I guess but my bet would be MB incompatibilities).

AM4 has been around a long time and have seen a lot of new CPUs that they weren't originally designed for!
