That's why I chose the Honda Accord I4

Peppy 150HP engine, uses REGULAR UNLEADED gas and great mileage.

What's your avg MPG in city and highway?

In my i4 Accord, I get on average about 26/27 city, about 31/32 highway. (Higher than EPA estimates for city, lower for highway)

Most V6 people on v6p.net report about 24 city, 31 highway, which is better than EPA estimates for city.

Per http://www.fueleconomy.gov --

A Mazda6 V6 manual gets 19/26 regular.
An Accord V6 manual gets 20/30 regular.

Not much of a difference if you ask me. And the Accord's better mileage is likely only from its 6spd (the Mazda is a 5spd), where the 6th gear is for fuel economy only and has virtually no power even on the highway.

I thought it was the exhaust pipe? 😉

Instead of heading to the dealer - take a look at the most likely cause of the problem - the driver. How are you driving the car?

V-6's are almost useless engines IMHO. There are few things that a V6 can do, that a big I4 or small V8 can't do better. Or at least an I-6...

thats pretty brutal, even for a truck. I know that with my dakotas I got about 10/11 mpg but I drove it hard and they both had 360's in them.
Maybe you have a bad O2 sensor, you should check online and see if there are problems with your motor that many other people are experiencing.

<--- Getting 22/29 on my Mazda 6 4cyl (5-speed)

Could probably bump that up a fair amount if I shifted sooner. 😉

How so? The only real benefit of a V6 is its relatively compact package. Otherwise, it's one of the most naturally unbalanced engine configurations possible.

You sure the manual gets 20/30? When I was looking at Accords, I recall the auto saying 21/31 on the factory sticker. They definitely get better than that IRL driving.

Oh please - don't get into this fictional "unbalanced engine" crap. They work perfectly - what's the problem?

Actually no.

A V-6 is generally considered to be a balance between the power of a V8 and the economy of an I4. However, it usually achieves neither.

Take a car like a Caprice. V8, RWD land boat with more power than pretty much any current V6 sedan...and it gets almost as good mileage. That on a 4-speed auto!
"OK", you say, "But I'm willing to sacrifice 100 hp in order to get an extra 2-4 mpg"

Well, that's where a large I4 can come in handy. It will give you the required horsepower, and get even BETTER mileage than the V6.

packaging IS everything. a V6 will fit where an I6 won't. a V6 will fit where a large I4 won't.
