From my mid-day and late night TV viewings, I know about Orkin and Terminix. Was wondering if anyone had any experiences/stories with other local pest control companies.

Fucking termites...

Vikane ...

Theres not much u can do about termites.

They can try to spray the affected area's but you will get an infestation back later.

Best thing to do is tent the house, and then vikane it.

Most Vikane jobs come with a 5-7yr infestation warranty as well.

Ask them politely to just leave.

I did, but they might be angry that I killed some.

How much additional damage can they cause in a week or so? Just wondering in case I need to be in Code Red get an inspector out right now mode since the earliest I can get an appointment is Monday with one not until Wednesday. I'd rather have them all come out at once so I only need to stay home one day.

there is no insurer that will insure you with a termite infestation as far as i know.

And they can cause a lot of damage depending on how big the infestation is.

I had a termite infestation in one of the complex's which i manage, and it wasnt fun.

Had to pay for each tenant to move out for the weekend while the fumigation was done.

But you want to take care of it as soon as u notice it.
Call an exterminator, sometimes they can just inject something in the area, and take care of it.

But if its bad, you will need to put up a tent and fumigate.

Move to someplace that isn't Sacramento?
or
Nuke the site from orbit, it's the only way to be sure.

What I'm taking from your message is I should get this done and never tell my insurance company about it. I already own the home.

I'll have to do a walkaround today when I get home and see if its worth skipping out on those companies not able to make it out Monday.

I'm no expert but I don't think they'll eat your house up in the next week. You can probably wait and get estimates from all companies. But I really don't know, I'm just saying what I would do.

if you get it done, you get certificates, which is good enough for the insurance companies.

Its when they come out and do an appraisal for your coverage.

If they see termites, and you dont have a certificate that it was sprayed, and just a fluke occurrence, they will deny covering you until you get a proof of fumigation done.

So in short.. just call an exterminator, and see if you need to get tent'd, or if he drills in the infected area, and drops a bomb there to take care of it.

If its a small outbreak, it wont take longer then 1 hour.
If its a big outbreak... u better get ready for the tent, and a weekend hotel stay.
