Think I bricked my Droid X. Dropped it outside overnight.

Won't turn on at all and not sure what to do. Stopped by the Verizon store and the 15 year old kid working there told me it probably got wet and tough luck. Any suggestions on here?

I plugged it in before thinking and all that happens is the green light (the one that blinks when you have a missed call or message or what not) just stays lit.

I have that Asurion insurance but not feeling too happy about dropping 90 bucks. Would love for it to just magically start working again with the help of the mystical powers of the AT community.

Any help would be incredibly appreciated.

If you have a can of compressed air, try to spray it as much as possible in all the nooks/crannies and let it dry for a while.

I have no conclusive evidence that this works, but what the hey, what do you have to lose?

Oh, keep it in the rice for 24-48 hours.

I know two people who have done this. It worked for them, not that that somehow proves it is the best method. I agree that it is worth a shot.

QFT. My buddy left his iphone in his jeans pocket and it went through the wash. Stuck it in rice for 3 days and everything but the wifi works fine.

Uncooked dry rice. Instant rice is going to be wet, and you don't want that.

The rice absolutely positively does help it dry out faster. As someone else said, plain white rice - and IMO it seems to work better if you seal it in a ziploc bag (open the bag every 12 hours or so)

I don't like spraying water-damaged phones with compressed air because it seems like it just pushes moisture further into the lcd and into the button membrane.


.........Personally, I'd drop the $90 and get a new phone. Even though the rice trick usually works I've seen phones 'go bad' again after working for a few days.

Maybe I missed it, but did you drop it into water/somewhere wet? With a drop, I'd suspect it would be the ribbon cable that connects to the display to get dislodged or broken rather than water damage unless you dropped it in enough water to cover the device. Of course, that would mean opening up the phone. Best bet is to cough up the $90 and have Assurion take care of it.
