I have been runnig XP for quite some time now and I love it, I use most of the software you do and it works great, only thing I have seen be a little funny is ICQ, no crashes or anything, it just tends to be a bit weird visualy

I'll tell you what....

Run WinXP upgrade checklist and it will tell you which of those applications you have loaded might have problems under WinXP, to think that anyone here can tell you about every possible problem you might have shows a fair amount of naivette on your part.

As far as your hardware goes.

What the hell is an @home NIC? I don't think that they manufacture these themselves, open up your case and find out who actually manufacturers it... are you going to load the @home software or use ppoe under WinXP? The @home stuff might not work since I believe it's currently based on IE5.5

"No name" soundcard might be a problem if it's ISA. ISA soundcards are not supported in WinXP.

You might not be happy with your Voodoo since I believe you will only get DirectX drivers for it, but I'm sure if you search around you can find out if newer drivers that give you full functionality are available.

Frankly, WinXP is not any more stable for games than Win2K.. Win2K just requires more work to set up as you have to load SP 2, various drivers, patches and bug fixes.

If you are happy with your Win2K setup then I don't know why you are chomping at the bit for an upgrade.

I recommend that you try XP and if you do not like it, it is easy to go back to what you were using before.

<< thinking about switching from WIN 2K PRO to WIN XP >>

XP is 2000, just like ME is 98. It's Windows 2000 ME! Why do so many people think it's some new OS? It's NT 5, with a kiddy GUI and lots of bright shinny colours to give us good reason to upgrade. Nice having updated drivers on the CD to start with, and it's always fun being the first on your block to have the newest toys. XP's added 'features' are just like having a few third party programs that you'll probably never use added into the OS, some can be a pain (MS Messenger) and others helpful if you don't know much about backing up your system or burning CDs. Install it, play with it, have fun. It will work as well as your copy copy of 2000 is right now and then some. :Q:)

it's slightly tweaked, and i found some things need a bit of compatibility to run under it... ok, one thing. heh. it is only a small upgrade like you said, IMO for the better (the mulitple user thing is nice along w/ built in zip).

I noticed you have a V3.

I have a V3 3000 and, using the drivers included in XP, I had NO 3D.... OpenGL didnt work, Glide didnt work, ... cant remember if D3D worked.

The ONLY other XP drivers available are some hack job drivers put togther by a member of the hardware community... and when I installed those I
got a machine that was stuck in and endless loop of restarts...

So my experience with 3dfx card and XP is HORRID.

Although, apparently, some people have gotten things to work.
