A television.

I can watch on the PC anything I want (torrents fuck yeah), and I can get news online.
I'm mystified that so many people still have one, especially nerds. It's worth ditching TV for the ads alone...

Consoles too, but that's because I'm a PC gamer. Though this might change soon, as a friend might give me his old Gamecube... 😛

More people without TVs than I would have expected.

I don't have TV or a smartphone. I don't buy meat cuts for the fridge. If I cook meat, it's tinned, frozen fish, or sausage.

Yeah, I left that open for interpretation based on life situation, age, etc. Which reminds me of one more thing that I don't have. A best friend. Very briefly in two points of my life could I say that I did, which I think is rare.

This is a tech oriented forum, not necessarily representative of society in general. Many non techy people I know wouldn't dream of not owning a TV, its as unfathomable to them as it is for me to seriously consider dropping $1000 on a nice TV. That would likely end up connected to a computer to stream Netflix or Hulu. Nice to have? Definitely. Essential? Nope.

You don't have to have cable or satellite to enjoy stuff on a tv. I'd rather watch stuff through my tv than sit in front of my 22" monitor at my desk. Much more comfortable sitting on the couch. As for the torrenting of stuff, that's kind of lame. If you can't find a legitimate way to watch it online (hulu/network website/etc) and don't want to pay for it, it doesn't give you the right to just take it without paying for it.

I don't have:
Cable tv
Smartphone
an Apple device
car
