Things to See and Do in L.A.

I think I've finally convinced my parents to take a trip to L.A. this winter. It's a place that I've wanted to visit for quite some time.

Anyways, I'd appreciate some recommendations on what to do see and do (asides from Disneyland, which is already on the list). Please, no strip joints, as this will be a family affair

You can do the "movies" thing and go to Mann's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. You can see the walk of Fame and the stars in the street if there's no construction.

Go to the Getty Museum, it is an amazing place. You could spend a week there and not see all the things they have on display. The architecture is amazing, the view is breathtaking on a nice day.

If you're planning on going to college, maybe take a tour of UCLA. It's a pretty campus, and the guides are pretty cool ( 3 of them are in my house )

Maybe check out Venice Beach, for the tourist thing, just go during the day. Universal Studios is cool, if you don't want to go to another theme park, Universal Citywalk can be fun.

Check out Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, that's a fun thing to do. Beverly Hills has a little bus tour thing that they do, it's pretty cool.

One of the best Mexican restaurants on the planet is called El Chavo. It is at the east end of Hollywood, where Hollywood and Sunset Boulevards (both E-W streets) cross a N-S street called Hillhurst. If you are of legal age, they also make the best margarita I have found in North America.

As long as you're on the Left Coast, it's So Cal, so the weather may even be right for a nice afternoon at the beach.

If you're driving, and you are going to be out here long enough to see more of California than L.A., do San Francisco, too. If you do, take a slight detour to see San Simeon, the old William Randolf Hearst estate. Not to be missed!

And if you can't give up your computer junkiehood, pick up a current issue of MicroTimes, and check the current schedule for the local computer swap meets. You can pay Ca. sales tax and still do better than most online deals. If you have the dealer ship back to your home state, they won't have to charge the sales tax, and you won't have to pack your new toys for the ride home.

Universal Studios, Hollywood. Six flags, Magic Mountain.
Maybe go to the Gladstone's restaurant in Malibu. Pricey, but great view.
Oh, maybe drive over to Vegas. or san diego.
