Things to do/see in Cancun

Going on an all-inclusive trip next Sunday for a week. Never been to Mexico. I hate flying(Sun Air is who we're using) and will probably upgrade if it's available to first class. Aside from that, I'm curious what others here have done. I just got a Go Pro camera so I'd really like to do some snorkeling at some point.

On expedia I've mainly seen zip lines, snorkeling and cave exploring.

Anything really out there that's worth the $/time?

Just go to the Cancun forums on Tripadvisor website. Everything you need to know is there.

Scuba and/or snorkeling for sure. Also, if you have time, you can take the boat over to Cozumel where theres more beach/party type stuff.

Been to Cancun area 3-times. It's really friggin hot & humid this time of year. Bring lots of sunscreen and a hat.

Chichen Itza is a 4hr bus ride away, it is amazing. If you go - ensure you get on a tour that stops at Ik Kil Cenote and have lunch/go swimming for an hour.

Best snorkeling is in Puerto Morelos and their reef. About 45-minute from the Hotel Zone.

You can grab a ferry to Isla Mujeres, rent gold carts and hoon around the island while stopping off for beers, shopping, and checking out the beaches and beach bars.

Dos Ojos cenote is fabulous as well, about 90-minutes away near Tulum.

All sorts of adventure parks, zip lines, swimming, jungle tours, can be had.

Night life is good as well if you like massive clubs. I would recommend The City on Friday night and Coco Bongo's any other night of the week. The beach bar at Mandala is cool. Senor Frogs and Carlos & Charlies are also good.

strongly recommend xel-ha. really awesome place to check out and expect to spend your whole day on a trip there. it's a long driver there/back. you can do 1/2 tulum, 1/2 xel-ha when going there too if you want to knock out both at once. we did that trip, but after being at xel-ha we didn't want to leave so we stayed there longer and skipped tulum. i hear it's pretty neat too though.

also take a day trip to isla mujeres. it's like a 45 minute boat ride from cancun and you spend the day chilling on that island. it's really nice over there and you can rent golf carts and drive around. there are some spectacular views from there as well. and the boat rides are fun too with the staff on the boat and unlimited drinking. you can usually do snorkel trips on that trip too.

i did scuba there (my only time scuba diving) and there isn't that much to see, even though they take you out in this place that has a buncha statues. i've snorkeled in places and seen better stuff. but it was my first and only time scuba diving and it was freaking awesome regardless.

but in general, what you see snorkeling/scubaing in cancun isn't really that great compared to other places i've been. if you haven't done much snorkeling though, then it will still be amazing to you. snorkeling is kind of like pizza - even a bad place to snorkel is still great.

xcaret is also cool and a day trip type of thing, but if you only do 1 of the excursions that is a far drive away, i recommend xel-ha over that.

i did one of those "mayan adventure" things too which was kinda cool. it involved swimming in cenote's, a biking thing, and one other thing i forget. but tbh i'd skip that type of thing and do the other stuff. the whole cenote thing was not as cool as expected, simply because it's darker than swimming in the ocean, and there is hardly anything to see in the water anyways.

and the clubs are ridiculous there. coco bongo, daddyo's, the city, etc. those are all awesome places to go. they are all a flat fee to get in and it includes all drinks inside so you can go pretty cheap at those. i don't recommend senor frogs, unless you are looking for an american bar in mexico. also eat at the little taco stands and stuff, those are cheap and awesome food.

Market28 is pretty good and right across from Walmart if you need anything while you're there. If you don't rent a car, public transit isn't too bad. Drink plenty of Mexican coca-cola while you're there and make sure if you're trying not to drink the water that ice is most-likely tainted.

The clubs are pretty awesome.... Snorkeling is alright, but the drift diving is better if you can book a trip out to the reefs.

We got sick in 2006 when we went, but I think it was on a day trip to Isla Mujeres.

I went on the Atlantis sub in Maui and was unimpressed. We went 120 feet down and it was an ok experience. I definitely wouldn't do it again but is kinda neat I guess.

You really need to get over to cozumel to scuba. If they stay local... meh.

The Cenotes would be worth seeing nearby and the donkey shows.
