going to NOLA this weekend for friend's bachelor party. We plan on hanging around the french quarter at night, but need things to do during the day. What are some daytime activities that would be good for this time of the year?

I heard there is gold treasure buried in the levy system. Get a shovel and start digging. Make sure you dig at night so nobody will bother you, or try to steal your loot.

Hah, I just got back from NOLA for the same reason. I've been a few times before though...depending on the type of people in the group, walk to Jackson Square, see the cathedral, walk the market (immediately past Cafe du Monde). If they're more open to sight-seeing, hop on the trolley and just take it up for a while. Get off on Magazine St, eat/shop...some beautiful neighborhoods out there.

If you're all into live music, I also highly suggest getting over to Frenchmen St. It's about 2-3 blocks East of the edge of the French Quarter and that's where you'll find a bunch of open clubs/bars like D.B.A., Snug Harbor, Spotted Cat, etc. It's also open container like the FQ so if you don't like a band, just take your drink and leave. :)

Cafe du Monde
Jackson Square
Aquarium of the Americas
D-Day Museum
French Quarter

Sleep in Slidell, LA if you want to live.

Walk towards an area with more people if you are approached and said person compliments or inquires about your clothing (like your shoes) or jewelry.

Hang around the Garden District. It's a much less touristy part of town and much nicer looking to boot.

Get some pralines. You'll thank me later.

Do yourself a favor and go to the World War II museum. Make sure you go to the movie, it is well worth it.

Loved the museum, couldn't stand the movie. The props moving up and down in front of the screen (and the fake snow) were just too over the top.

I'll be in New Orleans this Friday and Saturday. There are only two things I will be doing: eating and drinking

I came in and left a day before/after the group, so I was there Thursday-Monday. Most of the 11 guys had never been so I figured that we'd mostly hang in the FQ (and I was right).

If you're going to make it to Frenchmen St., make sure you stop by Port of Call on the way for the burgers and baked potatoes (yes, baked potatoes) in NOLA. Plus, their drinks are strong and dirt cheap compared to Bourbon St.

dawn is when you should be stumbling out of the barely legal club

edit: there are a lot of clubs in new orleans, but we keep going back to that one as it doesn't seem like as much of a ripoff as places like rick's but it's not particularly seedy. try to get a tour of the private rooms upstairs, some of them are creepy.
