Hey guys,

I'm going to Boston in two weeks and I'm looking for suggestions for things to do, specifically restaurants, stores and bars I should be checking out.

I'm going to be visiting someone that goes to Wellsley so that might impact some of your guys advice, as I will be with her for the entire trip.

Also, what weather should I be expecting? What type of clothes do you guys suggestion.

Cheers,

Ryan

The Purple Shamrock is a great rib place
at least a year ago when I was there last
It's off of the backside of Faniel Hall, along the road it shares with gov't center
I have no idea as to the name of the street

The north end is always amazing for food, any restaurant will be good

my advice, don't make any gay jokes, because if she goes to Wellsley, she's a lesbo

1) Top of the hub if you're into that - http://www.topofthehub.com
2) North end for bars and Italian restaurants, the bar kreon speaks of is just across the street from the haymarket T stop on the green line, but you could also walk to it from Gov Center.
3) Sunset Bar and Grille in Allston - 300+ different kinds of beer - take the green line (B) to Harvard Ave and walk up Harvard. At Brighton Ave, hang a right. Or get off at Packards Corner, walk down Brighton Ave, and you'll see it after perhaps a 5 minute walk on the left. You may also like the White Horse and a bunch of other bars in that area - if you're too "old" for the college crowd, you may enjoy the C line a bit better - Washington Square and Coolidge Corner.
4) Newbury street if you're into the whole ritsy thing - good places to eat (Stephanie's is one of them)
5) I would stay away from down town -- not much fun in downtown crossing, government center, faniel hall, etc, etc.
6) Definitely check out the Esplanade. Take the girl for a walk =) Take the red line to Charles/MGH, and when you get out, walk AWAY from the mass ave bridge west. You'll have a nice walk along the water, and you'll be parallel to Comm Ave the whole time so you can always cut across that and on over to Boylston to pick up the green line.
7) Waterfront - take the blue line to Aquarium and enjoy the boston harbor - great air =)
8) Cambridge! Definitely - I would check out Central Square and Harvard Square - find a place called "Grendel's" in the latter. You may enjoy Davis Square as well. I would stay away from Porter and Kendall - nothing really interesting, although Kendall has MIT.
9) If you like seafood, definitely check out legal - I would go to the Park Plaza location off of the Boylston T stop (Arlington is closer but actually farther on the line, so its easier to just walk from Boylston).

I have so many more suggestions. Just find me when you're here.

I don't really mind, I've been to a gay bar here in Vancouver, and every girl I've ever dated at some point has asked me if I'm gay, which they found out I clearly wasn't.

I'm pretty comfortable with my sexuality, and I certainly won't discriminate on someone because of their sexual orientation.

The Purple Shamrock isn't a rib joint, it's a f'ing night club. One of dozens in Faneuil Hall.

Boston in the spring and autumn is fantastic. While in Wellesley, one of my favorite restaurants is China Sky, right up the street from her. Great Chinese and Japanese, with a very good sushi bar. A little more upscale, and fun, is Fugakyu, on Beacon St Brookline.

Rt 30, Commonwealth Av, takes you to (eventually) Boston Common on the Tremont St. side. The Theatre District is over here. Prepare to have fun, eat, drink and get very lost.

Rt 16 (eventually) takes you to The People's Republic of Cambridge and Somerville. Harvard Square is one stop among others in the area. Prepare to have fun, eat, drink and get very lost.

Rt 9, Boylston St. not much happening, until it dumps you out in Kenmore Square. This is the beautiful crime-free Fenway. If the Sox are playing, DO NOT DRIVE. Check out a dozen clubs on Landsdowne St, next to the ball park. Jillian's is at the end of Landsdowne, and Boston Billiards is on Boylston. Prepare to have fun, eat, drink and get very lost.

There's way more than that too. Museums, concerts, the Aquarium et cetera.

I went in the afternoon, so not much clubbing at that time
Didn't really seem like a night-club, just a bar with a little stage.
guess I was mistaken
They still had wicked good ribs

1. Ducktour. Good stuff.
2. I second walking the along the esplanade. Make the trip so that you're walking through Boston Common & Garden then through the Esplanade then finish through the Charles St where all the beautiful English-style restaurants and shops are. Here's a good map. Try the slice of the day in Uppercrust on that same street. One of Boston's signature experience.
3. If you like shopping, go to Copley Plaza. It's a fancy shopping mall crowded with expensive shops like Louise Vuitton, Armani and so on.
4. Watch the Boston Pops Orchestra in Boston Symphony Hall. I think John Williams (Jurrasic Park, Indiana Jones) is making his visit there now.
5. Museum of Science is currently having a CSI exhibit. I'm taking my lady there for a VIP opening show tomorrow actually. It should definitely last through the winter.
6. Fenway Park for the Redsox
7. Fanneuil Hall & Quincy Market.

Much much much more. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me. I'm the resident Boston expert here. My hometown baby!

The Sunset Bar is a great place for their hundreds of microbrews and amazing wings, but keep in mind it's just small hole in the wall place in outerskirts of Boston (Allston). There's nothing much to do there once you're done with the place.

Great advice. I second Fugakyu.

Since you're a tourist, I'm just gonna rapid fire bunch of names to check out. Google the name for further info. These are the quintessential Boston to-dos.

Restaurants:

Fugakyu (Japanese)
Shabu Zen (Best hotpot in town)
33 (Modern American)
The Vox (Modern American)
Koreana (Korean)
The Harvest (Modern American)
Chow Chau City (Chinese)

Bars/Clubs: (trendy, the cliche place-to-be places of Boston)

Avalon (in fenway park)
Liquor Store
Rumor
Aria (these 3 are all in theatre district)
Ned Devine (fanuil hall)

Bars/Clubs: (not as fancy but great word-of-mouth places)
Wonderbar (allston)
Tonic (allston)
Soho (allston)

A MUST stuff to do:
Ducktour (a tour amphibian WWII bus that goes on Charles river and all of Boston)
Walk by Boston Common & Public Garden (next to each other)
Copley shopping plaza
Get lost in downtown crossing & financial district
The wharf
Quincy Market & Fanuel Hall (so much to eat!)

I'd recommend a scenic cab ride to the train station and getting on the first train out of there asap ;)

unfortunately, one (of many) lame fact about boston is this town shuts down way too early. fortunately, the north end has plenty of late-night (24hr?) restaurants and some kick ass 24 hr bakeries. leave the car at home.

Clubs close at 1 or 2am.
Most of restaurants close at midnight or earlier.

I know it freakin' sucks but once I got older, it's not that bad.... I guess that's one of the good(bad?) thing about being 25.
