If you bring a TV, bring a 360 and a copy of Halo 3, that's almost the only time I ever use my TV

Edit: a clothing rack might be helpful, and a small couch is a must if you plan on getting much use out of your Xbox. Granted, this stuff depends on the size of the dorm and what kind of closet is already in there

and about a 13 gallon trash can along with maybe two smaller ones is definately a good idea.

A dorm room is sort of like an ecosystem. It can't be planned, it sprouts life on its own and determines what flourishes and what perishes.

One for shower, one for walking around the building (or you can just use flip flops you wear outside).

Long ethernet cord/whatever you need for a wired internet connection (you may not place your computer right next to where the ethernet port is)

Fridge
Microwave
TV
Lysol Disinfectant Wipes (you will need a lot of these)
Shower flip flops

If you don't have carpet in your dorm I would highly suggest getting some type of big rug or piece of carpet to cover the floor with and be able to vacuum it. My dorm was just floor tile and it got completely dirty with scuff marks

other than what's already been mentioned... duct tape and a nice pair of headphones come to mind.

towels so you can smoke in your room (weed, cigs, w/e).

wet the towel down and line the door. open the window and point a fan out it. keeps the smell outside and the smoke alarms from going off

Bring at least a basic set of tools. A hammer, a few screw drivers and a set of pliers would be very handy.

I'm assuming (hoping) that you've seen what your dorm room is like? Because mine was basically the size of a walk-in closet, and I wouldn't have been able to fit half the crap here that people are mentioning.

Ah, the ethernet cord. If I knew how & had the tools back then, I would have made a killing in the dorms. My college used a non-standard wire arrangement on the wall jack, so we all were forced to buy their $15 cable.

My roommate and I split the cost of a 32" LCD HDTV. He brought his PS3, I brought my Wii, and this other kid we met eventually hooked up his Xbox 360 in our room. I bought a couch later on. Needless to say, our room was a very cool place to chill on our hallway.

Headphones, earplugs, those silly eye covers. At some point in your college career you'll realize that you'd like to sleep. Risk game. Dart board (plastic tips).

^ this.

This. Definitely this. I made the mistake of not buying sandals two weeks ago. I literally went right out and bought some after the shower.
